We were delighted to co-host the "Latest Trends and Legal Considerations for Investment in Taiwan" seminar with Atsumi & Sakai, A&S Fukuoka LPC, and the Japan Institute for Overseas Investment (JOI). The seminar concluded successfully at the end of July. We extend our gratitude to the local organizers and all attendees for their support and assistance. Taiwan's investment environment is rapidly evolving. For Japanese enterprises to succeed in Taiwan, it is crucial to stay informed about the latest regulatory updates and practical trends. During the seminar, our attorneys Patrick Marros Chu, Li-Tzu Lin, and Yin-Fan Chen provided Japanese companies with detailed explanations of Taiwan's regulatory landscape and investment environment, as well as key considerations for business operations. Following the seminar, they engaged with local business representatives to share the latest practical information. 📰Introduction to Lee and Li's #Japan Practice Department: https://lnkd.in/gaU3t2XZ 📸Read more about the seminar and view the event gallery at https://lnkd.in/gjw6nH7q

Taiwan was one of the few economies in the world to register positive growth in 2020. Real GDP expanded by 2.98%, boosted by strong export performance, and the official growth forecast for 2021 is 5.4%. Taiwan’s business environment is expected to continue to score highly in several rankings. From what countries do you see the most inbound investment? What about outbound? Inbound investment: Japan is one of the top investors in Taiwan, particularly in the manufacturing sector, wholesale and retail trade, financial services, and technical services. The US, Hong Kong, and Denmark are also top investors in Taiwan. Outbound investment: Investment from Taiwan tends to go into the US, Southeast Asian Nations, Europe, and China. https://lnkd.in/enbTFYyZ

Last week, our Greater China Practice partners, Rebecca Chew Ming Hsien, Co-Head of China-Related Investment Dispute Resolution, and Chen Xi, Partner in Capital Markets and M&A, had the privilege of participating in the 6th Western China Foreign Investment and Trade Services Conference (第六届中国西部国际投资贸易洽谈会) in Chongqing, China. The conference showcased the investment opportunities in Western China, drawing over 900 enterprises from 40 countries and regions. Rebecca delivered a keynote address discussing Singaporean investments in Chongqing, highlighting the joint venture between Singapore Changi Airport and Chongqing JiangBei International Airport. It was an exceptional chance to discuss the vast potential for Western China's companies to invest in Southeast Asia. She also moderated a panel, featuring Chen Xi among other distinguished panellists, on the topic "Opportunities and Challenges of Investing into ASEAN". They explored the strategic advantages of using Singapore as a springboard for investments into the region, offering essential considerations and practical guidance on Foreign Direct Investment. We extend our gratitude to the Chongqing Municipal People's Government for their warm hospitality and the insightful exchanges with everyone. It was another short, but insightful journey in Tokyo for me and my partner André Durocher at Fasken. Japan and Canada bearing complementary economies are showing successful tractions in trades and investments. It was great to reconnect with our clients and collaborators in the region. #canada #japan #business #law #trade #indopacific #economies #investments
