There were approximately 1.3 million people who acquired HIV in 2023 worldwide according to the World Health Organization. This is a 39% decline in new HIV infections since 2010 and 60% decline since 1995 when HIV infection was at its peak; however it is still important for everyone to get tested, at least once a year. Get on PrEP if you can, especially if you engage in high risk behaviors that increase the risk of HIV acquisition. And if you're someone who is living with HIV, make sure that you remain on treatment as prescribed so that you can remain virologically suppressed or undetected.
