The CVSA International Roadcheck, commonly referred to as DOT Week or Blitz Week, is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world. This year’s DOT Week takes place from today, Tuesday, May 14 through Thursday, May 16. On average, officials are anticipated to inspect nearly 15 trucks every minute across North America. This adds up to roughly 65,000 vehicles inspected across North America over these three days! This year's focus will be on Tractor Protection Systems, among other things. Yesterday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA released the new, 6th edition of the Model Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria (MMUCC). I represented the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and served with many federal, state, local, tribal and private sector traffic safety colleagues on last year’s MMUCC Committee, which provided critical input into this resource. The MMUCC is used by public safety agencies nationwide to update police crash report forms. NHTSA and the committee took a deep dive on how officers can most efficiently capture data on just about any different conceivable crash type. This was also an opportunity to consider how we can better document traffic safety problems that sometimes slip through the cracks, like distracted driving, roadside crashes, pedestrian crashes and many others. The adoption and implementation of the new MMUCC will help us collect more accurate and consistent crash data so that we can deploy traffic safety resources where they are most needed. https://lnkd.in/ePbrErFR

You can help safely share the road by remembering that large vehicles make wide turns, so keep your distance. For pedestrians, if a large vehicle is stopped at an intersection or about to turn right, you should step back from the curb and wait for them to turn before continuing ahead.
