It was my absolute privilege to welcome members from the Department of Commerce Under Secretary Dr. Laurie Locascio, and state and local officials, to our Colorado Springs facility today to share that the Biden-Harris Administration has announced CHIPS preliminary terms with Microchip to strengthen supply chain resilience for America’s aerospace and defense, automotive and medical industries. The funding we are proposed to receive from the CHIPS and Science Act (https://www.chips.gov) would be split across two projects: Approximately $90 million to support our $940 million Fab-5 expansion and modernization project in Colorado Springs, Colorado, over the next 7 years; and, approximately $72 million to support our $800 million Fab-4 expansion in Gresham, Oregon. The projects are estimated to nearly triple the output of semiconductors we produce at these sites, decreasing our reliance on foreign foundries and strengthening supply chain resilience, and creating good-paying jobs in construction and manufacturing.
