Happy Pride Month, everyone! 🌈 As we celebrate love, equality, and diversity during June, let's remember that food insecurity disproportionately impacts the 2SLGBTQ+ community, especially in Oklahoma. Many 2SLGBTQ+ individuals experience unjust challenges, such as disproportionate rates of poverty, discrimination, and restricted access to resources. Here are a few ways we can make a difference: 1️⃣ Support local 2SLGBTQ+ organizations in Oklahoma that work towards ending food insecurity. They provide resources like food pantries and meal programs. 2️⃣ Donate non-perishable food items, toiletries, or funds to 2SLGBTQ+ community centers or shelters in your area. 3️⃣ Educate yourself and others about the inequities that the 2SLGBTQ+ community experiences in Oklahoma and across the country. By understanding the challenges, we can better advocate for more inclusive policies. Every small act of kindness and support makes a difference. Let’s work to create a world where everyone has equitable access to food and an opportunity to thrive. #PrideMonth #FoodInsecurity #Equality #EndHungerInOK #Allyship #2SLGBTQ

As we celebrate Pride Month, it’s important to remember that true allyship extends way beyond June. Authentic support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community involves consistent and meaningful actions that start from within our organizations. Here’s how you can make a difference and become a true ally to the 2SLGBTQ+ youth and families who support your brand. Start from Within: ✨ Inclusivity should be embedded in your culture all year round, not just during Pride Month. ✨ Offer training and workshops on diversity, equity, and inclusion. ✨ Invite your team to share their pronouns in their email signatures if they feel comfortable doing so. Avoid Rainbow Washing: ✨ Custom Pride collections can be great, but be mindful of rainbow capitalism. ✨ Ensure your initiatives are genuine and not just for show or profit. Provide Year-Round Support: ✨ True allyship means helping the 2SLGBTQ+ community outside of Pride Month. ✨ Look for ways you can make an impact, like through partnerships, donations, or advocacy. Let’s commit to making a difference every day, not just during Pride Month. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive world for everyone. #PrideMonth #RainbowWashing #AuthenticAllyship

Transwoman's first letter! "First ever letter received in life, and I never knew someone could send us something so beautiful and handmade," one transwoman shared with us. Thank you, Salesforce volunteers, for creating 'Wellness Kits' for LGBTQIA+ individuals. These kits include essential items like bath soap, shampoo, a nail clipper, hand sanitizer, and bandages. Each kit also contains a handwritten letter from volunteers. Sometimes, we as givers under estimate the impact of a small kindness act. What we think as SMALL makes a BIG difference to the people who need it the most. No help is small. Care is Care. Love is Love. Keep Volunteering because it matters! #LGBTQIA+LivesMatter #CommunityDevelopment #WellnessKits #Volunteer #PrideMonth #Volunteering #CSR #CorporateSocialResponsibility #SDGs #SustainableDevelopmentGoals

I help advancement leaders use philanthropy communications to close more 7-, 8-, and 9-figure gifts.
As a #philanthropy communications consultant, I’m not just a teacher—I’m also a student. While clients are learning things from me, like…. ✅ How to make a persuasive #fundraising case for support ✅ The difference between strategies and outcomes ✅ Why endowment education is so important ….I am also learning from them. For example:: 💡 The collapse of Bethlehem Steel has had a decades-long impact on homelessness 💡 Teaching Tanzanian farmers to compost saves chimpanzee habitats 💡 A third of medical schools spend 0 hours teaching LGBTQ+ health I’m not a subject matter expert in human services, conservation, or medical education. But, I know how to ask the right questions while creating cases, proposals, one-sheets, and other communication tools for #MajorGifts #fundraisers to use with #donors. (Shoutout to my liberal arts education at Vassar College for that!) — 👉 Your turn: Have you learned something new lately? What was it? — Hi, I’m Emily, the president of #Weiswood Strategies. We create #DevelopmentCommunications that empower fundraisers to close more 7-, 8-, and 9-figure gifts. Like this post? While one of our staff members was out recently, they watched someone access a bathroom with a ramp, only to find the door too heavy for them to open in their wheelchair. Just a few days later, they saw the same thing, but this was simply to get the front door open. Even though there was accessible parking and a ramp to get to the the door. We wanted to share this with you all as a powerful reminder that accessibility isn't just about one feature, it's the whole experience. What are your thoughts? Have you encountered similar situations? Let's continue to work together and raise awareness to create a world where everyone can navigate their surroundings with ease. Update on Joy’s Health We want to share an update on Joy, a trans girl who was attacked alongside her friend Ray while at church. Ray's condition has significantly improved and continues to get better each day. However, while Joy’s health is in a slightly better place, she still experiences a lot of pain. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our donors and friends who helped us get Joy to the hospital. Without your support, her story could have been very different. We are still in need of financial assistance to pay for Joy’s ongoing hospital bills and to maintain our shelter, which houses 50 LGBTQ persons. Operating an LGBTQ shelter in a hostile environment with very limited financial resources presents constant challenges. Your continued support is crucial for us to provide a safe haven for those who need it most. Please consider donating to help us keep the shelter running and ensure that Joy receives the care she needs. Being an Active Listener and Supporting LGBTQIA+ Colleagues 🌈 Here are some practical tips to be better allies and create inclusive spaces: 👂 Listen Actively-When an LGBTQIA+ friend or colleague shares their experiences, lend an empathetic ear. Create a safe space for them to express themselves without judgment. Sometimes, all someone needs is someone who truly hears them out. 📕 Educate Yourself-Take the initiative to learn about LGBTQIA+ history, terminology, and issues. Understand that everyone’s experiences are unique. Avoid making assumptions or invalidating their feelings. 📣 Amplify Voices-Share their stories, art, or advocacy work on social media or within your network. Use your platform to elevate their voices. Encourage others to do the same. Visibility matters, and your support can make a difference. ✊ Be an Upstander-If you witness anti-LGBTQIA+ comments or jokes, speak up. Be an effective bystander and challenge harmful behavior. Your intervention matters in creating a more respectful environment. 🌈 Support LGBTQIA+ Organizations-Attend local community events, donate to LGBTQIA+ charities, and uplift LGBTQIA+ artists and businesses. Your support contributes to a more vibrant and inclusive community. Remember, allyship is an ongoing commitment. Let’s actively listen, learn, and stand up for equality. Together, we create a more supportive world! 🏳️🌈 #ListenWithEmpathy #LearnAndListen #AllyshipMatters #QueerVoices #EqualityCareers #30daysofallyship

I create organizing strategy, organizing education and programs to disrupt white supremacy culture for social justice organizations, unions and nonprofits.
In an election year full of opportunities to make history, here's another one. Lisa Middleton was the first trans person elected - to anything - in California. (How did we let Minnesota and Virginia beat us??) Now, she's running for the California state senate. In 2017, Lisa was elected to the Palm Springs City Council, where she helped improve local transportation and infrastructure, combat climate change, build more affordable housing, invest in public safety, and address the Coachella Valley’s homelessness crisis. As Mayor of Palm Springs in 2022, Lisa led the City’s economic recovery from the pandemic — helping small businesses reopen and create good-paying jobs. Plus, she raised two kids to be educators. What's not to like??? Lisa is in good company. Event co-organizer and Organizing To Win's number 3* fan Stephanie Wade opened up a conversation about inclusion and safety in her race for Seal Beach city council. Her co-conspirator in this event is none other than Fullerton city councilmember Ahmad Zahra, the first openly LGBTQ Muslim elected in the entire nation. The OC has seen a lot of change, but it's still Orange County ya'll. Shout-outs to barrier-breakers Stephanie and Ahmad. Is there someone who deserves a shout-out for breaking barriers in your community? Tell me in the Comments! To contribute to Lisa's campaign for history and common sense solutions, come to Stephanie and Ahmad's virtual fundraiser! Link in the Comments. *My parents are numbers 1 and 2. #CommunityOrganizing #OrganizingToWin #Election2024 #HomelessnessSolutions #Transit #ClimateChange #PublicSafety #TransRights
