DAWG LESSONS - Week 10 - "When you get the ball, RUN!" What do you do when you receive a task or project you weren't expecting? In the UGA game against Missouri this weekend, Defensive Lineman Nazir Stackhouse was faced with that exact dilemma. In the fourth quarter of a close game, Stackhouse made an interception. As a DL, his job isn't to be the fastest runner on the field. But the opportunity arose, and what did he do? He RAN. Faster than he probably ever has. That big guy hustled down the field like a very well-fed antelope. It was a game changer. So, what do we do when our organization hands us the ball and ask us to step up? This isn't about piling on extra job duties, it's about answering the call when you're needed. Run with it. We're all one team, so embracing some ambiguity and flexibility is key to being effective. Becoming a Purpose-Driven Professional I've recently completed a transformative program with Higher Landing, and I want to share some powerful formulas I've been practicing. 1. Curiosity Formula 50/50: Curiosity is about (a) asking the right questions and (b) genuinely caring about the answers. Can you make a recruiter/hiring manager do most of the talking during your interview? By applying this formula, you can uncover important/pain points (IPs) of potential employers and tailor your approach accordingly. 2. BUL Formula: When seeking help or job opportunities, it's essential to consider why someone may not support or hire you. The BUL formula highlights three common reasons: they don't Believe, Understand, or Like you. However, with awareness, all three can be managed effectively to your advantage. 3. 5-Hour Rule: This rule suggests dedicating at least five hours per week to learning. Because learnability is a crucial soft skill in the 21st century. Are you integrating these formulas into your career strategy already, or maybe you have your own principles?
