Although several consecutive budgets have failed to allocate further grant for #communityledhousing, or investment in the growth strategies the sector has been developing (i.e. me with Owen Jarvis and Blase Lambert), it is positive that there is a pledge of a £20m investment into an existing social finance fund to support some of the pipeline. Details are TBC, I can't say much more at this stage. But we will keep pressing for the full spectrum of investment and support required, as set out in our manifesto aiming for community-led development to grow to 5% of housebuilding. https://lnkd.in/gSGBHiZD

The East Portland Community Investment Trust (EPCIT) provides community members with a low-cost, loss-protected, and liquid investment opportunity. Between 2017 and 2023, 328 households have become investors in EPCIT. Over the same period, the annual dividends for investors have averaged a 7.6 percent return, and the value of investors’ shares has nearly doubled. You may or may not have heard about the new Housing Accelerator Fund. I was reading about this new program the other day on the HRM website and recently our government has acknowledged that we are short about 20,000 housing units and it's growing daily. To help battle this issue they are proposing that a minimum of 4 units can be placed on one property lot, previously this was a minimum of 2 units within the urban area. So my question is -- do you think this is enough? Is the governement doing enough to get ahead of the issue? What else can we be doing to deal with our housing crisis head on?
