*From Reluctance to Realization* In 2012, I graduated with a degree in law. At that point, I was not interested in practicing and never envisioned myself as a lawyer. The natural next step would have been to sit for the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) or the bar exams, but the thought of entering the legal profession didn't appeal to me. To avoid the CLP or bar exams, I decided to pursue a master's program that piqued my interest. Additionally, I aspired to be an educator, like my mum, and had always dreamt of being an educator. As a child, I used to arrange my teddy bears on the staircase and pretend to be a teacher while writing on my tiny blackboard and “teaching” my students. In 2013, I embarked on an LLM journey at University of Kent focusing on Medical Law and Ethics and International Commercial Law. This decision was driven by a desire to dive into two areas of law and gain a deeper understanding of those areas. Despite my initial reluctance to practice law, my LLM journey subtly shifted my perspective. Fast forward ten years since I completed my LLM (and exactly 9 years since my post graduate graduation ceremony), I now find myself entrenched in the world of law. The lessons and skills from my LLM studies are woven into the fabric of my daily practice, especially when it comes to conducting legal research, prioritizing ethics and ensuring that decisions are made in the best interests of my clients. Reflecting on my journey, I realize that my initial reluctance to become a lawyer was a crucial part of my path. The detour through my LLM program allowed me to develop a unique set of skills and a broader perspective that I might not have gained otherwise. Now, as a practicing lawyer, I can't imagine doing anything else. We often don't know where our choices will lead us. Sometimes, a detour can unexpectedly open doors to new opportunities and fulfillments we hadn't envisioned.

Listening at Plenary at the International Legal Ethics Conference to Dr Sam Muller talk about the Hague Convention 'People Centred Justice' and it's key pillar for governments and institutions in establishing a people centred vision and culture and what's also needed in 4 other pillars. These include evidence based responses and voice and co-design with people. Need worldwide action to address injustice and inequality. The role of justice sectors in giving voice to those excluded currently. None of this is new. In my view too many quick fixes and need for systemic issues/causes to be acknowledged Brings to mind my book Better Law for a Better where I argued for the same. See this interview about the book and a summary. https://lnkd.in/dskGc6C7
