This is worth reviewing again...for nothing changes if nothing changes. The sector is as screwed as an overused cap...or some argue, it is totally corked! When will Wine Australia, as the Federally mandated peak body for Wine Grape Growers AND wine producers, set aside the vested interests of the major corporate wineries and listen to their mandated constituents. Time for the Federal Government to take a serious look at the distorted structure of Wine Australia and bring about long overdue changes. https://lnkd.in/gYuFNAdr]

Another serious governance challenge in Australia. These governance challenges aren't happenstance. They're too numerous for that. They are a red flag, representing a systematic attack against freedom from slavery. It is an outcome of the failed implementation of economic rationalism in the 1980s and 1990s. We just saw in the past two days Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand make a statement about how it's going to lift its game re real estate money laundering. A starting point is to look at the way the governance structure of our farming bodies have been sabotaged to enable real estate money laundering. They didn't just screw Australia's AML CTF laws up just a little bit. They went the full Monty. ==> U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ==> Financial Reporting Council ==> Australian Federal Police ==> U.S. Department of State ==> U.S. Department of the Treasury Dr. Martin B., doing my best to draw attention to the seriousness of the issues. The issues described behind the link in your post are a fragment of the same issues, repeated over and again. Good governance is a science, not an art form. The importance of segregation of functions to avoid conflicts of interest is Audit 101. Every medium to large accounting firm knows the control framework for effective governance. The fact Australia is not working to good practice standards is an indictment. ==> It's worth taking the degradation of these governance controls into account within the wider context of the failures of Big 4 firms to maintain professional standards. The Australian wine sector has been suffering enormous pain (or at least the bulk of the industry has been). There are critical issues that must be resolved in the short term. But we also need to look to the medium and long terms where there are existential threats to Australian winemakers and grape growers. It is, therefore, essential to address the question of “who will be the next consumer of Australian wine and how do we go about attracting them?” Calling all winemakers and grapegrowers to attend Finlaysons’ Wine Roadshow 32 so that you can plan(t) your future.
