"SEGRO Germany GmbH, a developer and manager of logistics and commercial real estate, is setting an example in the industry: The "Segro Logistics Centre Hamburg Neu Wulmstorf" is, according to its own information, the first logistics property in northern Germany whose supporting structure is made entirely of wood. It is a speculative project, i.e. without any pre-letting. Completion is planned for the first quarter of 2025, and the first tenants can receive so-called early access as early as December. One of the most striking features of the new building is the wooden supporting structure, which makes the property one of the pioneers in the German logistics landscape. Both the roof structure and the mezzanine and the supports are made entirely of wood. This should significantly reduce the carbon footprint compared to conventional construction methods and support Segro's goal of being climate-neutral by 2030. The property is aiming for DGNB platinum certification, the highest level of the German Sustainable Building Council, and no fossil energy sources are used. Heating is provided by heat pumps, and the energy supply is supported by the purchase of green electricity and a large-scale photovoltaic system with a total output of around 1.9 megawatts. Segro has planned an intelligent measurement and balancing concept for the solar cells so that tenants can easily use the green electricity generated. A highly insulated building shell will further optimize energy efficiency. In addition, 20 percent of the car parking spaces will be equipped with e-charging stations to promote electromobility. Beehives, insect hotels and nesting boxes for native birds are also intended to promote biodiversity." Tim-Oliver Frische

In den Vortrag zu CO2-reduziertem Beton mittels KI von Hoang Anh Nguyen oder zur Skalierung von Holzbau und klimagerechtem Bauen von Elise Pischetsrieder werde ich auf jeden Fall gucken!

Starting today, the "Bavarian Timber Construction Award" exhibition showcases the diversity and aesthetics of modern timber construction. #Wood is one of the oldest building materials known to mankind. This is mainly due to the good structural properties that modern timber construction can exploit, for example in prefabrication and the addition of storeys to buildings. However, wood is also a #renewable raw material. Building with wood benefits the climate in several ways. Firstly, the manufacture of timber products generally causes only low CO₂ emissions. Also wood products used in a building turn it into a carbon sink. Wood also can replace CO₂-intensive building materials and is therefore an important lever for climate-neutral construction. Using wood from local forests shortens transportation routes and supports regional value creation. Sustainable forest management adapted to climate change - as prescribed and practiced in Germany - is the basis for building with wood.
