FLI Colloquium with Ivan Matić: ADP-Ribosylation in DNA repair signaling and aging – blending advanced technologies and fundamental discoveries 💡 Biochemist Dr. Ivan Matić from the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing has spoken on July 23, 2024 at the Leibniz-Institut für Alternsforschung - Fritz-Lipmann-Institut e.V. (FLI) about the latest discoveries and developments of his research group on protein modification ADP-ribosylation. 👉 His research team identified, using the proteomic approach for ADPr, serine-ADPr as a novel histone modification. This seminal finding led to the revolutionary discovery that the HPF1/PARP1 complex is the originator of this novel PTM. This represents a new paradigm for PARP1 signaling. Matić's team converted these fundamental discoveries into a broadly applicable technology. 🔬 Please find a video here ➡ https://lnkd.in/dWhWyJY6 #science #aging #discoveries #lab #microbiology #innovation #health #biology

#READALLABOUTIT This paper written with a PhD student, Chante Johannes and other supervisors. This paper interrogated the #relationship #between #psychosocial #factors and #physical #activity #participation among #undergraduate #university students at a #HDI in #South #Africa. The most stand-out finding for me was how #physical #activity was #significantly #associated with #mental #health, such as #depression, #anxiety and #stress. I got a sense that these are messages we have been broadcasting, and not really taking stock of where they have been landing. This research therefore advocates that future research on mental health should consider #physical #activity #interventions as a #strategy for #coping with #mental #health #challenges amongst #undergraduate #students. #undergraduate #mentalhealth #physicalactivity

FLI Colloquium with Prof. Kiran Patil: Metabolic and genetic view on gut microbe-chemical interactions Kiran Raosaheb Patil, Professor of Molecular Systems Biology, University of Cambridge, has spoken at the Leibniz-Institut für Alternsforschung - Fritz-Lipmann-Institut e.V. (FLI) on September 26th about his current findings. Here you can find our interview with Prof. K. Patil: https://lnkd.in/eQ-bKd_C Human gut #microbiota is exposed to thousands of xenobiotics, ranging from therapeutic drugs to chemical pollutants. Chemical pollutants are particularly concerning. They are increasingly recognised as a key environmental threat due to widespread pollution, which by some estimates has exceeded the safe ‘planetary boundary’. Kiran preseted his lab’s effort to understand impact of these chemicals on gut bacteria using #molecular approaches and emerging molecular insights towards mitigating their negative impact. #science #scientist

Can you imagine your name appearing after the discovery of up to 12 elements of the periodic table? For American physicist Albert Ghiorso, this was a reality. Together with his team, Ghiorso managed to co-discover 12 elements of the periodic table, including americium, californium, nobelium, and fermium, among other highlights. 🔬 At ChemoSapiens, S.L., we understand the challenges researchers face in the pursuit of new discoveries. While we don't promise Ghiorso-like results, we are committed to providing the materials you need to make groundbreaking discoveries. And hopefully, you too can make a difference in science just like Ghiorso! 🌐 Find out how our quality chemicals and commitment to excellence can support your research. Check out this great article from Arpeeta Hota, Binod Chandra Tripathy, Jiban K. Das and colleagues from CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Material Technology and Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research👏⬇ https://lnkd.in/eMmXTfK4
I am excited to share our recent publication on High-Entropy Oxide, now available in RSC Dalton Transactions (https://lnkd.in/dgPUTpt5). In this study, we successfully synthesized cauliflower-type morphology of high-entropy amorphous metal oxide using a low-temperature hydrothermal method, and subsequently investigated their performance in oxygen evolution. Congratulations to the entire team.🎉

I’m proud to announce the first experimental paper from the Brightsite Plasmalab, thanks particularly to Martijn Ruijzendaal and Davide Del Cont-Bernard for making this a reality. Non-equilibrium between vibrational and translational energy is an important phenomena that can occur in plasma discharges, but it isn’t always easy to measure. In this paper, we describe a fast Raman scattering based method to map non-equilibrium temperatures in H2 plasma. This is achieved by using a camera with bandpass filters to isolate specific rotational and vibrational Raman transitions, from which you can determine the two temperatues. Pretty cool 😎 Read the paper in JQSRT: https://lnkd.in/eUmtrBSm

Erwin Schrödinger (b. 8/12/1887) Nobel Prize for Physics (1933) – for the formulation of the Schrödinger equation that describes how the quantum state of a physical system changes with time. In 1944, he wrote What Is Life?, which contains a discussion of negentropy and the concept of a complex molecule with the genetic code for living organisms. According to James D. Watson's memoir, Schrödinger's book gave Watson the inspiration to research the gene, which led to the discovery of the DNA double helix structure in 1953. Similarly, Francis Crick, described how he was influenced by Schrödinger. https://lnkd.in/dri3C8q

Invitation from Prof. dr Bato Korać: There are a number of reasons one can say that the 21st century has given birth to a new scientific discipline - Redox Biology. And Redox Biology is also, like any other aspect of science and life, a perspective on things, with the cooperation of opposites in its basis. With a goal. Harmonized in health, out-of-balance in illness. Studying Redox biology: oxidants, antioxidants, redox active molecules and redox regulation is a multilayered endeavor to comprehend the complexity and uniqueness of this regulation. Understanding this complexity will allow for a greater understanding of biology and, life. This Conference is an attempt to get to know more deeply the core of Redox Biology, the core of life. With these warm thoughts, Belgrade is waiting to meet you in September 2024. Can’t wait! 🔬
