🌟 Exploring the Interplay Between Self-Esteem and Anxiety in Therapy 🌟 As a psychologist, delving into the delicate relationship between self-esteem and anxiety in my clients has been both enlightening and humbling. In the safety of the therapeutic space, I've witnessed firsthand how anxiety can cast a shadow over one's self-esteem, distorting perceptions of worth and capability. When anxiety strikes, it has a way of making people feel that they aren't capable of handling life's challenges. Their self-esteem takes a hit. For many, this relationship has been life-long, and the idea of changing this dynamic feels insurmountable. The journey towards healing begins with building awareness of patterns and fostering a compassionate understanding of one's self. In my practice, I've found that cultivating a sense of self-compassion is vital. It's about creating a space where clients can explore their themselves and their inner world and create a new relationship with the parts of themself they dislike or ignore. I am deeply honoured to walk alongside my clients on this transformative journey. Together, we navigate the complexities of anxiety and self-esteem, fostering growth, and fostering a deeper sense of self-acceptance and resilience. #Psychology #TherapyJourney #SelfCompassion #AnxietyAwareness #MentalHealthMatters

These insights can offer valuable clues about what might be more challenging for you in your practice. Finding safe spaces to process the trauma you carry is essential. Whether it's during supervision sessions or seeking advice from trusted colleagues, having a supportive environment to explore your thoughts and feelings is key. 🌞 Self-Reassurance for Overcoming Self-Criticism and Harsh Self-Judgment 🌞 Self-criticism and harsh self-judgment are common among individuals with anxiety. What distinguishes self-criticism from harsh self-judgment? ☑ Self-criticism is a negative self-talk, focused on one's own failings or shortcomings. ☑ Harsh self-judgment is more severe form of self-criticism, where an individual judges themselves negatively as a whole, often feeling unworthy and unacceptable. Fostering self-reassurance can help mitigate self-criticism and harsh self-judgment: 🟦 Reflect on past achievements. 🟦 Remind yourself of your positive qualities and strengths. 🟦 Consider the kindness, comfort, and encouragement suitable for offering a friend. 🟦 Practice self-validating statements, such as "I did my best in that situation." With consistent practice, self-reassurance can become a preferred response, replacing negative self-criticism and judgment. If you seek professional help, I offer: ⭐ Weekly Therapy: Regular sessions (counselling or psychotherapy) to focus on yourself and process your experiences. ⭐ Intensive Therapy: Accelerated recovery with two sessions daily for six consecutive days, totalling 12 sessions in one week. #kindness #psychology #MentalHealthInCommunity Image: red flower. Today, we begin a nine-day overview of my Deconstructing Anxiety method. This method is taught in-depth during my Deconstructing Anxiety Intensive, offered only twice per year. The next Intensive takes place March 14-17, taught live by me on Zoom. It's worth 30 CE's for qualifying health professionals. . You can learn more at https://lnkd.in/dJUnGuj9 . Read on for day one . . . . (Day 1 of 9) In the Deconstructing Anxiety model, we learn that there are 8 manipulations of fear - 8 primary ways that fear distorts our perception. . If we deconstruct and expose these manipulations, we can more readily see that they are, in fact, manipulations. What does this mean? That they are illusions. They have no ultimate validity. . I hope that you will check back tomorrow (and in the coming days) because we will explore all 8 manipulations of fear. If you want to go an extra step, you can turn on notifications for my posts so you don't miss anything. . I'll see you tomorrow. . . #fear #anxiety #manipulation #distortion #deconstructinganxiety #breakingfreefromanxiety #overcominganxiety #psychology #psychologist #socialworker #socialworkers #drtoddpressman #perception #hope #healing #mentalhealth #mentalhealthprofessional #therapist #lcmhc #lpc #fnp #therapy #anxietytherapy"

*Are you a people pleaser?* People-pleasing is a behavior where one constantly feels the need to make others happy at their own expense. It's often driven by a fear of rejection or a fear of failure. People-pleasers often go out of their way to avoid conflict and seek approval from others. Here are a few strategies to avoid falling into the people-pleasing trap: *1. Set Boundaries*-Learn to say no when you need to. It's okay not to be available all the time. *2. Prioritize Your Needs*- It's important to take care of your own needs and not always put others before yourself. *3. Practice Self-Awareness*- Recognize when you're slipping into people-pleasing behaviors and take steps to correct it. *4. Seek Support*- If you're finding it hard to break the cycle of people-pleasing, consider seeking help from a therapist or a support group. Remember, it's not about becoming selfish, it's about finding a balance between being considerate of others and taking care of your own needs. #psychology #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthishealth #mentalhealthadvocacy

It is easy for us to over-estimate how good or how bad we really are. This can be to do with a distorted self-image, created by an unintegrated shadow-self. This will frequently cause us to act unconsciously, often to our detriment and rarely for our good. By engaging in shadow work, we have an opportunity to bring ourselves to a healthier state of psychological wellbeing, with less chance that we will suffer the unconscious playing out those parts of our self that we have worked so hard to hide from the world. To learn more about how you can easily and gently work with your shadow, check out my self-guided course "Embracing Your Shadow" and see how you can empower more parts of yourself than you perhaps knew existed.
