It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. My guess is that a compromise will be struct between the farmers interests and the carbon reduction standards in the US. At least for a bridging period. With the EU ruling out crop based routes to SAF it will become increasingly difficult for bio-fuels to contribute significantly to decarbonisation of aviation. At Metafuels we're sidestepping this by focusing on e-SAF through our #aerobrew technology with up to 90% reduction in carbon emissions vs benchmark fossil jet.

By 2050, SAF is expected to account for 50% of the global decarbonization efforts. Today, there are 7 proven pathways to produce SAF approved by ASTM International. These pathways have benefits such as feedstock availability and cost, total carbon reduction, or processing complexity and cost. It's important to note that some SAF pathways may be more suitable than others in certain areas of the world depending on feedstock availability and processing capabilities. The aviation industry prioritizes safety, which is why the process for testing potential new fuels is extremely rigorous. Testing is done in laboratories, in equipment on the ground, and under the extreme conditions of in-flight operations to determine the suitability of SAF. These new requirements lead to an ever-changing marketplace in the fuels and energy industries. More than ever, emerging fuels need assurances that they meet the appropriate local and international qualifications. Understanding these complex requirements and partnering with an independent 3rd party testing company ensures that producers and users end products meet stringent requirements. Zero emissions aviation: a flight of fantasy, or an emerging reality? Technology innovations are bringing vision of #hydrogen powered flight closer by the day. Storage of hydrogen on board the aircraft is a key issue. As is the infrastructure development for refuelling.
