The new year is almost here! Do you still write resolutions? Well, after failing to actually do them (and you know we've all been there!), it will be very understandable if you already gave up on listing anything, but have you considered that maybe you're doing it wrong? Listen to my interview on KOGO Radio, San Diego as I talk about coming up with new year's resolutions that you can actually fulfill, and perhaps doing them whether or not it's the new year! #newyearsresolutions #happynewyear2024

Michael Mosley’s final broadcast (before his untimely death) is definitely worth listening to. It’s full of gentle insight. It’s an interview with psychologist Paul Bloom. And it’s about living a good life (a question that has exercised the greatest minds since ancient times). ‼️ Spoiler alert‼️ Bloom’s answers to the question: 1. Find contrast - rather than sameness - seek out the sweet followed by the sour. 2. Lose yourself - get out of your head and into the flow. 3. Look for satisfaction rather than happiness - happiness is a consequence of what you do not something that can be pursued in and of itself. 4. Accept suffering - we are hardwired to value things that may be hard to attain. 5. Know yourself - there is power and freedom in understanding ourselves better. That episode:

I'm David Lettermanning this post and just saying: My Next Guest Needs no Introduction. But I only did that because he really doesn't 😀 We talked about the human side of optimization and touched on some very important topics. Thank you, Ton Wesseling for being an absolute joy to interview, but also for everything you do for the optimization/experimentation community! And thank you Luka Nikolić for sending that question for Ton! Get the episode at https://lnkd.in/dZK2taXD

📺 In this episode of "Free Your Voice," I had the amazing opportunity to chat with the legendary author Orson Scott Card, best known for his "Ender's Game" series. We talked about his unique perspective on life, how he approaches his creative process, and his thoughts on various topics. I started the episode by sharing a personal story: "Ender's Game" was the first book I ever read outside of the Bible, and it had a huge impact on me. This set the stage for a very personal and insightful conversation. One of the fascinating concepts Card discussed was "abeyance" in forming opinions. He explained how he holds his beliefs tentatively until he has enough evidence to back them up. This reflects his broader philosophy of keeping an open mind while staying true to your convictions—a balance he sees as essential for both personal growth and societal progress. We also touched on his views about artificial intelligence and the media. Card is quite skeptical about the current hype around AI, warning that we shouldn't overestimate what it can do or underestimate the complexity of human intelligence. He also expressed concerns about the media landscape and the impact of misinformation on public discourse. Our conversation got even deeper as we talked about the role of authors in society and the responsibilities that come with it. Card emphasized the power of storytelling to shape culture and individual beliefs. He advocates for writing with integrity, creating stories that challenge readers to think critically and empathize more deeply. Card also opened up about his personal life, sharing the challenges and triumphs he's faced. He reflected on how his career has evolved, how his beliefs have changed over time, and how these experiences have influenced his writing. His honesty provided a rare glimpse into the personal struggles of a celebrated writer. As we wrapped up, we talked about the impact of legacy and the fleeting nature of fame in the literary world. Card's humility and thoughtful insights left a lasting impression, giving listeners a deeper appreciation for his work and the complexities of the creative mind. https://lnkd.in/eqdtcSeS #Podcast #FreeYourVoice #OrsonScottCard #EndersGame #AuthorInterview #CreativeProcess #Storytelling #AI #Media #PublicDiscourse #PersonalGrowth #SocietalChange #LiteraryJourney #Philosophy #IntegrityInWriting #Leadership #ThoughtLeadership #Inspiration #BookLovers #WritersLife #FutureOfTechnology
