The Capital Cities & Regions Network (#CCRN) workshop on smart and sustainable growth is underway at the European Committee of the Regions! 💡 We had the opportunity to hear inspiring presentations directly from regions and cities, where the work of building a sustainable future is happening. Thank you for your insightful contributions: •Juraj Droba, President of the Bratislava Region, on how metropolitan regions drive positive change. • Sjaak Kruis, Deputy Mayor of Lelystad, on accelerating the circular economy to tackle housing shortages. • Emma Blain, Councillor of Dublin City Council, on smart city projects. • Johanna Laisaari, Deputy Mayor of Helsinki, who shared with us the insights about strategic vision How Helsinki will learn in the future and the needed future skills. Thanks also to Brussels and Prague for your video contributions! ✅ As mentioned during the workshop, the more locally cohesion funds are managed, the more effective they become, creating solutions and innovations that drive sustainable and smart growth while addressing the challenges of our time. We heard excellent practical examples from fields such as #mobility, #housing, and #education that are being developed in regions and cities. Let’s ensure that cohesion policy works effectively to support innovations and solutions that benefit the whole of the EU as we work towards a sustainable future. We should also continue to collaborate through networks like CCRN to share best practices across Europe🌍 Stockholm Region EU Office Metropoolregio Amsterdam Service public régional de Bruxelles Representation of the Bratislava Region to the EU Irish Regions European Office Riga Prague Helsingin kaupunki – Helsingfors stad – City of Helsinki #EURegionsweek

Great #wrapup today of the evaluations of the Greening Cities topic proposals of the European Urban Initiative! Many thanks to the great colleagues and the officers of the initiative. Looking forward to working with you again! #cheers #cities #urbaninnovation #urbangreening #urbanplanning #urbanpolicy #europeancommission
European Urban Initiative: up to 5 Mil Euros to pilot innovative projects. ✴ Today's a wrap. For the second time, I had the privilege to be one of the experts reviewing projects and advising the EU Commission on the strategic assessment of the proposals. A big responsibility, and a terrific learning opportunity that I shared with my co-assessors for the "Greening Cities" prompt: Marion Cugnet, Margarita Angelidou, Constantinos Cartalis, Stephen Lorimer, Nikos Karadimitriou and coordinator Pushpa Arabindoo ✳ It's great seeing so many valuable projects aiming to make cities more resilient. ✳ It's even greater seeing experts and resources coming together to push forward these projects into realization. Best of luck to Agnieszka Siłuszek, Kathleen McCarron, and the rest of the EUI team for the last bits of this challenging/promising selection process!

Building Tomorrow, Today Cities across Europe are planning to develop new urban districts to ambitious standards previously unseen. The ambitions are needed, yet complex; the districts aim not only to be low carbon, but also to create social value and live up to a range of ESG targets. How to incorporate all these requirements presents a challenge for ongoing projects in several cities: ✅ Copenhagen is completely redeveloping a former railroad area, and ✅ Stockholm is building a fossil fuel-free district at a former industrial port. ✅ Frankfurt is planning one of Germany’s largest revitalization projects on 73 hectares, while ✅ Paris is using the upcoming Olympics to boost the sustainability of their entire urban core. 🤔 But how can cities make sure that necessary investments are allocated to realize these holistic district visions? 🤔 What partnerships need to be in place? 🤔 How do you define comprehensive success factors? Join us on Tuesday March 12 from 12:30 to 13:15 for an interesting panel discussion about the urban & living environment. Development Along Transit ++ [planning and economic development concepts] >> "The transformation of Australian cities such as Melbourne with the so-called “linear Barcelona” form, densifying along transportation routes, exemplifies that a multi-fractal system can evolve over time, while ensuring a human scale and a diversity of uses, and at an appropriate pace for the local community." read more at https://lnkd.in/eksN-4QK. ‘In Australian cities, the aim should be to maximize development along new and future road public transport corridors’ https://lnkd.in/ezu3YuG7
