President of CEV- Centre for European Volunteering , President Croatian Volunteer Development Centre and Executive director DKolektiv
In the midst of a world burdened by increasingly intense conflicts and a rising tide of division, we at the Centre for European Volunteering (CEV) mark International Volunteer Day not only in celebration but with a deep sense of solidarity and concern. In moments when we witness an increase in violence war and conflicts, we believe that it is important to show solidarity with all those affected but especially those who bear the greatest burden of devastating war conflicts, civilians. Our hearts and efforts go out to them, as we reaffirm the power of community and compassion to not only provide relief but also to forge pathways toward peace. Today, we want to highlight the indispensable role of volunteers in preserving our shared humanity, advocating and striving for peace. We extend our unwavering support to aid workers and volunteers who engage on the front lines, often at great personal risk, to bring relief and compassion to those in dire need. Our commitment to fostering peace and justice is unwavering, as the influence of volunteers in these efforts is an important support. On this International Volunteer Day, let's remember the strength and importance of volunteers in building peace. In conflict or post-conflict areas, volunteers provide support to the most vulnerable people, including refugees, displaced persons, and children. They offer psychological support, assistance, education and capacity building to help these individuals rebuild their communities. Volunteers advocate policies that promote peace and justice. ... Volunteering in peacebuilding is not without its challenges. Often requires activities in unstable and often dangerous environments. Volunteers must be resilient, adaptable, and sensitive to the complexity of the social and political environment in which they engage. All in all, the contribution of volunteers to peace building is invaluable. As a European network, we are deeply concerned about the growing polarisation and extremism across Europe, but we remain steadfast in our belief that volunteering serves as a powerful antidote. Through volunteering, we build bridges of understanding and cooperation that overcome the chasms of division and conflict, bridges that lead us towards universal humanity. Let's remember: every action, no matter how small, can contribute to a wave of changes. On this day, we honour the resilience and indomitable spirit of volunteers everywhere. Your efforts light the way towards a more humane and peaceful future. In solidarity and hope, The @CEV - Centre for European Volunteering Board
