Please read this insightful lecture! “And so, I come back to where I began – the future of information science after AI must be a dedication to saving lives. Our discipline, or as I think of it, our community, has the ideas, ideals, and idealists to make a change. Seeing us as our information demon did – a connected network of action and ideas- we can bring about change. Who is better positioned in this time. The discussions of AI beyond our self-imposed walls, are not about Markov Models and deep learning. They’re about who will be left behind and how can we as a society benefit. That is our real expertise, and we need to speak up.”

As someone who loves the intersection of economics, computer science and psychology, check out the inaugural lecture on complex systems by David Levine. He was my favorite professor at UCLA and the reason I love game theory so much! As we see vast technological advances in ai and calls for regulation, it’s important to understand that It is easier to regulate an established industry where market conditions and the nature of competition are well understood. The economy and industries are complex systems. Sometimes intervention may not be a good idea if the system is complex and poorly understood. As an economist who loves mathematics and computer science, this is such an important topic and I really enjoyed listening to this lecture. https://lnkd.in/gQMqUQQb #complexsystems #ai #lecture #gametheory

I stumbled upon a fascinating paper that appears to have flown under the radar (just two citations on Google Scholar, despite it was published in Oct 2023), yet offers profound insights for those keen on grasping the nuances of RLHF, including its interplay with other sciences and methodologies. The paper skillfully situates RLHF within a historical framework, drawing connections to Reinforcement Learning, Control theory, Economics, and Decision theory, among others. One aspect I found particularly enlightening was the exploration of RLHF's relationship to the Von Neumann–Morgenstern utility theorem, and shedding light on what sets RLHF apart in tackling language issues compared to its applications in other domains. https://lnkd.in/gWyekAaR
