When you think about your competition remember there are no bad cars on the grid.
This comment was made by Ross Brawn, at the time F1 Technical director for Ferrari. He made the comment when he was seen looking at the last place car on the grid. I remember this like it was yesterday and it was probably 20 years ago now, but it stuck with me.
When Brawn offered this nugget, the commentator was confused “what do you mean, these are 3 seconds a lap slower than yours” – Brawn replied, “we can learn something from every car, ever car has something amazing, they may be 3 seconds slower a lap, but they are still amazing cars, I bet they have one or two things better than us.”
You may think you have everything, but everyone’s kit is good, no one sells trash.
Treat every solution with the respect it deserves, you offer different a product, you have a different position & different values – every competitor can be learned from, even what you consider the worst.
Competitors should drive you, without competition the evolution of products it lost – the net result the customer loses and so do you.
Finally - speak bad of your competitors to customers and you’re done. Push your self up not others down.
