We are excited to unveil a new suite of projects from our 2023 Request for Proposals, aimed at integrating Indigenous Knowledge into ocean and coastal decision-making. Historically, the traditional knowledge of Indigenous Peoples has been overlooked, impeding effective conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems. These projects seek to bridge this gap, focusing on the identification, analysis, and communication of Indigenous Knowledge where culturally appropriate. By fostering innovative engagement approaches, we aim to enhance marine ecosystem management through a collaborative and respectful inclusion of Indigenous traditions and wisdom. https://lnkd.in/g3Amde72

Another interesting webinar hosted by the Ecosystems Knowledge Network (https://lnkd.in/e6DKf5Am) coming up: "Most of the landscapes and seascapes of the UK gain their value and identity because of the way they have been shaped by both people and nature. New efforts to achieve nature recovery don’t always give due recognition to the culture and heritage that is so important in making places where people want to be. Likewise, efforts to enable places to thrive culturally don’t always harness the value of nature." https://lnkd.in/eh9nCTWE

The book chapter by Annesha Chowdhury and Soubadra Devy highlights the importance of including a capabilities-oriented approach to achieving SDG 15, given its complex nature. The researchers argue for an inclusive approach that allows for diversity in representation, recognition of people as part of the conservation dialogue, and the recognition of people’s rights through a capabilities-oriented approach as a basic guiding principle. Using Martha Nussbaum and Breena Holland’s philosophical approach, they emphasize the need to not just protect political and environmental entitlements, through a constitutional guarantee, but expand to include an actual implementation roadmap that is inclusive and representative to successfully achieve SDGs. 💚💚 The search for the next winners of The Earthshot Prize for 2025 has begun and the Institute for Sustaainable Development at EPLO European Public Law Organization is proud to be an Official Nominator for the most prestigious environmental prize for the fourth consecutive year! 🌊🍃 We are looking for individuals, projects and organizations to nominate for the five #Earthshots: 1. Protect and Restore Nature 2. Clean our Air 3. Revive our Oceans 4. Build a Waste-Free World 5. Fix our Climate 🦑💚 Launched by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in October 2020, The Earthshot Prize is the most prestigious global environment prize in history, designed to incentivise change and help repair our planet over the next ten years. The Prize aims to turn the current pessimism surrounding environmental issues into optimism, by highlighting the ability of human ingenuity to bring about change, and inspiring collective action. 👉 Taking inspiration from President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot which united millions of people around an organising goal to put man on the moon and catalysed the development of new technology in the 1960s, The Earthshot Prize is centred around five ‘Earthshots’ – simple but ambitious goals for our planet which if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all, for generations to come. The Earthshot Prize will award one million pounds to each of five annual winners whose solutions make the most progress towards our five Earthshots.
