🌟 Career update: I’ve entered free agency! 😎 🎇 My next quest: Helping a fintech or technology company build and scale products and teams that deliver real world impact to people. 💡 TrueML: In 2022, I realized a dream of leading a product organization at a mission-driven growth stage start-up. At TrueML, I spearheaded the evolution and performance of our consumer-facing applications, our ML-powered decision engine, our channels, UX and content. 📈Results: We crushed our Q1 revenue forecast (the first quarter I owned delivery), more than doubled revenue on our high margin growth product, and delivered some transformative capabilities like ML-integrated outbound dialing and an intelligent payment plan length optimizer. 😊To my TrueML friends: I'm deeply grateful to my colleagues and the leadership at TrueML. I was approached to join a team just a week before launch. It's a food delivery company that cooks and delivers meals ordered online. Despite the urgency, I declined because I needed more time to make a meaningful impact (they weren't ready to move the launch date). On launch day, they faced numerous complaints: The food wasn't ready until evening, despite promising delivery by noon, The quality, especially the fried rice, was below expectations. 2 months in, despite some improvements, customer complaints persist. Here's my 2 cents 👇 For any business, project or whatever you're starting, there's a need for proper planning and expertise from the Start. As a founder, you can hire a skilled product manager if you don't have the necessary knowledge. It's not a matter of dragging your founder-ship or CEO role with you 😜as some people feel. It's about building a solid foundation for success. We’ve launched on Product Hunt 29 times in 10 years. Last month, we finally hit # 1 Product of the Day. For the very first time. It took a while to hit this milestone. And here’s what I think made the biggest difference. 1/ We asked ourselves tough questions. → Why launch? Were our reasons right? → The answer was clear: Help more people work from anywhere. → Reaching the top spot would boost trust in our brand and expand our reach. 2/ We aligned with our mission. → We aim to connect people with remote jobs and companies with top talent. → Your job shapes your life quality, making location-based work outdated. → This purpose energized our community's support. 3/ We focused on love, not fear. → We focused on our love for what we do. → We stopped asking, "What if we don't get it?" → We focused on the thousands we've helped find great opportunities. Sometimes I wonder if my business card should just say "Jack of All Trades" at Mission Control . Reflecting on this wild startup journey, I've gone from RevOps Guru to web developer to SDR, dabbled in account management, strategized as a marketer, and led as an executive. Each role, a new adventure; every day, a lesson in versatility. The transition between building websites and connecting tools to cold calling, from nurturing client relationships to crafting marketing strategies, and leading our team towards our vision, has been nothing short of exhilarating. Sure, it's a balancing act that sometimes feels like I'm juggling fire while riding a unicycle, but here's the thing - it's incredibly rewarding. The joys? Seeing a platform i helped build come to life, closing deals I hustled for, and watching nonprofits find services they need. It's seeing the direct impact of wearing multiple hats, knowing that each role I've stepped into has been a crucial piece of our puzzle. The challenges? The steep learning curves, the shift in mindset from developer to sales to marketing, and the weight of leadership. Each role has stretched me thin but also built me up stronger. As a seasoned product manager in the early-stage startup world, I've learned that this environment can be both exciting and extremely challenging. Here are some of the things I've noticed that product managers at early-stage companies are likely to encounter: **Wearing Many Hats:** In the startup hustle, we're all juggling more hats than a magician at a hat store. From customer support to project management, our roles are as diverse as the colors in a kaleidoscope. But here's the catch: as we wear these many hats, it sometimes pulls us away from the core product work we're still expected to deliver. **Splashy vs. Impactful:** The external pressure to develop splashy, eye-catching features is real. It's like being asked to design the fireworks while the foundation is still getting poured. But let's not forget, the impactful, less glamorous details are the backbone of our success. Balancing the allure of the flashy with the substance of the impactful is our daily conundrum. **Feedback Wisdom Hunt:** Our customers have a lot to say, and sifting through their insights is like finding treasure. Let's make sure we're refining our product based on the golden nuggets, not the noise. **Time Crunch:** With so many responsibilities, time becomes our rarest resource. While we're spinning plates on multiple fronts, the clock keeps ticking. Delivering on the core product features becomes a race against time, and the pressure is real. 🚨 I am looking for new opportunities as a Senior Product Manager 🚨 This year, I leapt to new challenges with two early-stage startups. I've learned firsthand the challenges of navigating product-market fit and customer value throughout the seed stage - but also that most early-stage startups don't necessarily require a Product Manager; they need a Customer-focused Founder. In the past nine months, I have strengthened my ability to build a product vision and strategy before taking this to the roadmap stage and solving problems in fast weekly iterations. This has supplemented the detail-specific end-to-end PMing I did at Pleo. I have realised I work best in scaling environments where the product value needs to continually increase, whilst helping commercial teams reach their targets! So what's next?
