Leon Ashford’s Post

Yet another example of UK policymakers not understanding the industry. Wine is generally not vinified to a % abv. The best possible wine is made with the vintage of grapes which is largely weather dependant. Sometimes can be say,12%, sometimes 13.5%. With this new duty policy winemakers face the choice of changing price for duty changes each vintage, or manipulate the wine for the UK market to hit an abv. Both options ridiculous. Not to mention the admin burden ... Luckily this part of the policy not implemented until 2025, so maybe, just maybe, someone in government will see sense before then!! #winebusiness #excisetax https://lnkd.in/ebc7gzZy

it would be good to know, which industry body advised the government on this, I suspect no one.
