Effective change happens when leaders have a clear vision of both the big picture and the practical steps.
A huge thank you to Professor Pamela Snow for presenting on our QLD Literacy Leader Hub! Pam reminded us of the importance of going back to first principles: What reading is, what literacy is, and how structured, explicit literacy teaching (SEL) goes far beyond phonics. She challenged us to think deeply about knowledge translation—taking strong, scientific evidence and putting it into the hands of classroom teachers—and the equally important task of de-implementing practices that don’t serve our students. Her insights were a powerful reminder to hold ourselves accountable and focus on what truly works. We’re so grateful for her time and are already looking forward to welcoming her back in 2025! #LiteracyLeadership #EvidenceBasedPractice #KnowledgeTranslation #LiteracyLeaderHub

At Living Science, learning goes beyond academic excellence—and nothing exemplifies this better than our Middle School Expedition! This unique event blends hands-on learning, adventure, and unforgettable memories, all in an environment that fosters academic, personal, and spiritual growth. Every year, our middle school students embark on a journey to St. Simon’s Island that challenges them both academically and personally. This 5-day expedition is designed to immerse students in the wonders of science and nature, providing real-world applications of what they’ve learned in the classroom. From exploring diverse ecosystems to conducting field experiments, students are not just passive learners—they’re active participants in their education. What truly sets the Middle School Expedition apart is how it weaves together academic rigor and spiritual growth. Students are presented with the Gospel and are encouraged to grow in their faith. As they discover the beauty of the natural world, they also deepen their understanding of God’s creation and His plan for their lives. Many students even choose to be baptized in the ocean at Jekyll Island, marking a pivotal moment in their spiritual journey. Our students return from this adventure not only with a greater knowledge of the natural world but also with a stronger sense of community and purpose. At Living Science, we’re committed to developing the whole student, guiding them toward excellence in all areas of life. This is how we go beyond academic excellence. #DiscoverLivingScience #GoingBeyondAcademics #HandsOnLearning

As educators, we are continually called upon to grow—not only in knowledge but in empathy, resilience, and our commitment to justice. Teaching in diverse classrooms often brings moments of discomfort that challenge us to expand our understanding, and these experiences can be transformative for teachers and students alike. I’m conducting a dual-institution doctoral study, at Loyola University and Erikson Institute, focused on how early career white teachers encounter and respond to the challenges of teaching in diverse classrooms. This study explores how teachers process these experiences and the kind of support they receive, with the goal of understanding how they can best be prepared for anti-racist and socially aware teaching practices. If you know of white educators who have been teaching for four years or less — who would be open to reflecting on these experiences, I’d be grateful if you could share this invitation with them. The study involves a survey and a one-on-one virtual interview.

From Teaching to New Beginnings: Embracing Creativity and Growth. As a former 8th grade science teacher, I understand the struggles that come with public education. However, it wasn't just about the grade level. The biggest challenge for me was feeling limited in expressing my creativity and spreading my wings. #TeachingExperience #CreativeMindset #GrowthOpportunities #CareerTransition #CreativeExpression #NewOpportunities
