Cepton’s new long-range #lidar sensor, Ultra, is here at Berlin #Tech.AD! Together with b-plus Group, we’re showcasing live pointcloud from the world’s slimmest lidar packing Cepton’s groundbreaking MagnoSteer technology and proprietary ASIC chipset. Unveiled at CES 2024 in January, Ultra sets new standards for long-range sensing.
“Ultra is by far the smallest, slimmest high-performance automotive lidar on the market today. Similar performing lidar systems are typically triple the volume and double the height. With its extremely compact form factor and power efficiency, Ultra is designed for seamless integration into various locations on a vehicle without the need for an additional cooling system. It can be embedded behind the windshield and into the roofline, the headlamps, and the fascia, enabling high-precision perception for various automotive use cases.”
Dr. Jun Pei, CEO and co-founder of Cepton, says: “Ultra stands as the epitome of innovation in automotive lidar, with an unprecedented combination of industry-leading performance, low power consumption, and unrivaled compactness.

Happy new year! As announced, we would like to introduce Holger Meinel, recipient of the IEEE Transportation Technology Award 2023, who will be giving an invited talk on the topic of "#ADAS and #AD - Quo Vadis ?":
These days we already have wonderful #radar sensors available – about 350 million units are driving around worldwide on our streets at frequencies of 24 GHz as well as 76 to 81 GHz. A study from the UK has shown that the idea of “#VisionZero” – as promoted by the European Commission – by employing radar or #LiDAR sensors is not only working, but saving money, i.e. paying back! The enhancement of the existing sensors, i.e. the development of 4D radars in the 80 GHz range, is quickly ongoing worldwide. And furthermore, the combination of such radar sensors with optical cameras and LiDAR sensors for a real and robust AD is becoming a reality.
However, there are several basic conditions hampering this very desirable development:
- The discussion of #FMCW vs. #PCM
- #HMI as a corporate ID of the different OEMs
- Driver information and education
These 3 subjects will be discussed – technically and societally – during this talk, showing what is already happening in these fields, as well as what has to be fostered and initiated to make it happen in the near future – to make AD - Autonomous Driving - and thus "VisionZero" - a reality on our roads.
We look forward to welcoming Holger Meinel to ICMIM 2024 and learning about his latest findings!
