Symmetry in lighting is underappreciated. While it may come across as obvious, good lighting layouts usually strive to achieve symmetry. This is a lot easier than it sounds. In a lot of projects, the architecture can interfere with lighting fixtures. Air ducts or beams which weren't accounted for are perfectly in the way. An engineer thought a sprinkler would be ideal in that spot. An A/V company already cut a large whole for a speaker there. The reasons go on as to why symmetry in lighting can be a real challenge. Next time you go to a place where the lighting looks great, take a look at the symmetry.
