Driving impact through thoughtful internal and external communications. Storyteller + strategist. Good egg.

As an internal communicator, here are three quick key takeaways for executives from Ryan Gosling’s exhilarating #Oscars performance last night. Take note (and tell me what you’d add)! 🕺If you’re there, BE there. Show your audience you’re in it with them, whether it’s a celebration or a reckoning. Ryan was invested in the performance from the jump. He looked like there was absolutely no place he would rather be – every wink, every smirk, every gesture and facial expression contributed to that vibe. This, of course, is easier to do when it’s positive (e.g., great quarterly results, a game-changing client win, preparing to go public). But even when it’s not (e.g., layoffs), you can’t look like you’d rather be doing anything else. Employees deserve the respect you give when you show up as the steadiest, most committed and present version of yourself. 🕺Graciously incorporate others. When this song kicked off, Ryan was sitting behind Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig – a powerful visual reminder of the two most important players in the movie and an unspoken callback to the song's title, “I’m Just Ken.” In the corporate world, look for ways to nod to others. Ask a non-leader to present something relevant or share a lesson. Give a verbal shoutout to people who are crushing it. Let others take the lead on some key parts of a meeting. Ask a question that's a layup. 🕺Do the unexpected. The performance was already fun (That pink sparkly suit! I swoon!) but then we see Slash? Okaaaay…I didn’t have that on my Oscars bingo card but how cool. Playing to your crowd and injecting something unanticipated can be a really lovely touch (again, always in the right context). Think about ways to bring energy, commitment and focus to your audience – and you’ll always be Kenough. #oscars #barbie #ryangosling #internalcomms #executivecommunication https://lnkd.in/dzF3Suum

Yes! Billie Eilish giggling from the outset was a great hint, too. He clearly brought them into the fold — another tactic to carry over. Make it easy for your biggest supporters to help you. Make them delighted to have your back!

Not to mention seeing Wolfie VanHalen in the mix. Pure fun. So much fun.
