Since the first spine robot was cleared by the FDA two decades ago, many robotic systems have been developed with similar concepts and intended use for pedicle screw placement. This solution coming out of China is intended to treat spine pathologies like lumbar disc herniation, stenosis, or vertebral compression fracture through endoscopic spinal fusion and spine surgery. Founded in Beijing in 2021, Great Robotics develops an intraoperative 3D X-Ray imaging system and a teleoperated surgical robotic platform. The company raised a $14m pre-Series A round in 2022 and obtained NMPA approval for their 3D C-arm in April 2023. The 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗗𝗮𝘄𝗻 endoscopic surgical robot successfully completed a pre-clinical trial on animals earlier this year. The surgeon sits at a console and manipulates a handle that provides force feedback during the procedure. The multi-axis robotic system assists in the skin puncture, in positioning of the cannula and endoscope, high-speed drilling, bone work, radiofrequency electrode ablation, and manipulation of forceps.
