❗ Hot off the press ❗ – new study investigates how organizations’ prior collaboration and existing knowledge helped them cope with the pandemic and affected the vaccine’s development performance. The article by Daniel Laufs , Tetyana Melnychuk and Carsten Schultz from Kiel University, investigates the R&D outcomes of 386 active organizations from the ‘COVID- 19 Tracker’ database that the Milken Institute, involved in the COVID-19 vaccine’s development within the first 18 months after the pandemic’s outbreak. Key findings: 🔬Under urgency, organizations with prior scientific collaborations and technological knowledge exhibit a higher R&D performance 🔬 A broad network of diverse collaborators strengthened this relationship, thereby calling for more interdisciplinary R&D activities 🔬 Collaborations with partners from different institution types are particularly important if organizations have sufficient prior scientific and technological knowledge. Practical implications: ➡ During times of crises, R&D managers should emphasize the exploitation of previously acquired knowledge-related capabilities ➡ Forming strategic alliances in diverse domains enables organizations to use their collaborative linkages effectively in scientific and technological networks for new and urgent R&D projects ➡ Managers should also optimize their firm’s focus on the internal basic research in order to enhance its capability to leverage public institutions’ scientific knowledge efficiently and to bridge organizational and knowledge differences ➡ R&D managers should collaborate with different institutional partners, especially during potential products’ late development stages. Technology Transfer Office Manager @ Acıbadem University | Project Management, Health Tech, Monitoring & Evaluation, Business Mentoring, Entrepreneurship, Regional Development, Rural Development
📷 As we navigate the intersection of humanity and data in research, this striking image I captured on one of the notice board during our technical visit of the University in EARMA conference. #HumanityAndData 🌐🧬 Reflecting on the sessions at EARMA, I'd like to share some key takeaways: ✨ Research Management: It's more than just a profession; it's a dynamic field that demands a blend of soft and hard skills, evolving daily. The emergence of new technologies sparks debates like "To Use AI or not AI," alongside discussions on Risk Management, Data Quality, and more. Redefining the profession, addressing Research Ethics, Diversity, and Open Science are pivotal, with Human-centric approaches at the core. ✨ Medical Research Management: A specialized arena, requiring nuanced focus and expertise. Integrating hospitals and universities brings unique challenges, not just physically but in aligning norms and practices. Success demands dedicated efforts across all fronts. Excited to continue exploring these crucial topics and driving positive change in research management! #EARMA #ResearchManagement #MedicalResearch #Innovation #Collaboration #Diversity #Ethics #OpenScience 💡🔬🌱

I’m excited to share that I’ve successfully completed the "How to Create a Citizen Science Project" course, offered by the Barcelona Institute of Global Health (ISGlobal)! Throughout this journey, we covered vital modules including: 1. Formation in Participatory Research: This module focused on how to involve communities and stakeholders in the research process, ensuring that their voices and perspectives shape the research. 2. Engaging Active Participants in Citizen Science Projects: It covered strategies to actively involve citizens in scientific research, emphasizing collaboration between researchers and the public. 3. Strategies for Creating and Nurturing a Community in Citizen Science Projects: This module explored ways to build and maintain a community around a project by aligning participants' interests and fostering engagement. 4. Co-creating Research Questions: It emphasized the importance of jointly developing research questions with participants, ensuring that the research addresses relevant societal needs. 5. Research Integrity and Ethics: Focused on maintaining ethical standards in Citizen Science projects, such as protecting participants' privacy and ensuring transparency in data collection. 6. Public and Patient Involvement in Health Research: This module highlighted the value of involving patients and the public as active collaborators in health research to improve the relevance and impact of findings. 7. How to Foster Participation – The Case of Living Lab: It examined Living Labs as an example of participatory research, where participants are directly involved in co-creating solutions to real-world problems. A big thanks to ISGlobal for this enriching experience! I can’t wait to apply these skills to future projects and make a positive impact in public health. #CitizenScience #ISGlobal Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal)
