The interesting part is that both non-institutionals (Beekee and Kiwix) had a client-centric, content- and results-first approach (and grow from there), whereas Giga is entirely top-down, working with governments to map schools everywhere before trying to get them all connected to the broader internet.

This week, it was finally time: The Startup Demo Night once again demonstrated how promising the future of Munich's startup scene looks! At events like this, we always ask ourselves: Which startups should we definitely keep an eye on? This question was answered during the event, as the Bavaria Energy Award was presented to three highly promising startups, handed over personally by Hubert Aiwanger: 🏆 First place CellCircle: CellCircle’s mission is to create a sustainable circular economy for battery cells. In addition to saving time, energy and costs, this also means a significantly better CO2 balance. 🏆 Second place tozero: tozero GmbH is on the mission to challenge the status quo of lithium-ion battery recycling technologies and accelerate the decarbonization efforts. End-of-Life Batteries will no longer be toxic waste, but a valuable resource. 🏆 Third place: Qkera: Qkera is a material producer developing battery components as a key platform technology with no compromise on performance, manufacturability and cost - truly unlocking next-generation batteries for mass market applications. On top of that, our CEO Christian Heckemann met our neighbor Qkera, a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) at the Garching research campus, supported by TUM Venture Lab ChemSPACE. Barcelona has been named one of the first nodes in the ELIAS - European Lighthouse of AI for Sustainability, a European network promoting AI entrepreneurship and innovation. 👉 The #CVC is one of the organizations involved in Barcelona's node, which is co-directed by Dr Dimosthenis Karatzas, CVC's associate director. 🌍 Barcelona was one of eight inaugural #ELIAS nodes introduced during the Falling Walls AI Night on November 8th, in Berlin, Germany. This event, renowned for celebrating breakthroughs in science and innovation, provided an excellent platform for launching the pan-European Alliance with its new nodes in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Cambridge, Copenhagen, Munich, Potsdam, Tübingen, and Zurich. 🚢  The 8th edition of the #SmartPortChallenge, part of Singapore’s PIER71™ Great Circle 2024, showcased groundbreaking advancements that are steering the industry toward a sustainable and tech-driven future. 📊 Key Highlights from This Year’s Event:  • Unprecedented Participation: Nearly 200 proposals from 35 countries underscore the global appetite for maritime innovation.  • Incubating Success: 28 startups joined the PIER71 Accelerate program, refining business models and go-to-market strategies with expert mentorship.    • Transformative Partnerships: 20 startups secured 30 collaboration letters with Singapore-based companies, paving the way for pilots, grants up to S$100,000, and potential funding up to S$250,000 from the MPA’s MINT Fund.  Winners of Smart Port Challenge Grand Finals 2024: Clearbot, Open Ocean Robotics, and GT Wings emerged as the first, second and third-placed winners respectively.
