If you’re sitting around waiting for that big donor gift, you’re sitting in the past.
Institutions like Unity Environmental University recognize their success shouldn’t be measured by the number of students who didn’t get in. The future of higher ed is based on breaking down the barriers of entry to maximize the number of students getting degrees.
There are so many kinds of students who will help your school fulfill its mission. Provide a student-centered education that gives them the change they need.

The demographics are changing. Affordability is an issue, Flexibility is an issue. You as a tuition driven institution, if your solution is I need to make sure that my reputation as a leader is intact While I slowly hope for the big gift or to hire the magical admissions director who would bring in that class so that everybody remains comfortable in our own Mayberry or bucolic experience, it you are doing a disservice to the position that you have. Your job as a leader with higher Ed is to push the envelope, to make sure that you maximize the amount of students that get degrees, not minimum. Stop working with an outdated notion during an era of abundance, an era of privilege, an era when more students were denied. And that's how we measured our success. And start to think about all the different types of students who could truly fulfill your mission. And how do you provide a calendar, a tuition? Their curriculum and pedagogy and approach that supports them. And how do you build that to scale so that you don't build your institution to capacity, but you build it to grow with the students who need you? Because you can be the change that they need to be better in their life, whether it's their first job, their first volunteer experience, and their transformation from where they are to where they need to be. Don't say you are student centric, be it.
