The King’s Speech yesterday marked the beginning of a new Parliamentary year and was an opportunity for the government to set out its legislative agenda. One of the 40 bills that were unveiled was a Renters’ Rights Bill, which would end Section 21 no-fault evictions and make other changes to empower private renters. We are glad to see this, as reform of the private rented sector was one of the three key areas we have highlighted as being where the government should focus. No-fault evictions are a major driver of homelessness, but previous attempts to get rid of them have faltered. It is vital that there are no delays or watering down this time, and we urge the government to use the Renters’ Rights Bill to ban these evictions as soon as possible.

Sounds like lawmakers are concerned too about the rising costs of #housing and feel increasingly strained in their ability to maintain two homes (one in their home state and one in DC): "Some lawmakers have turned to living in their own offices to defray the costs." A great opportunity to pass more #bipartisan housing bills, to relieve the strain that Americans around the country are feeling (especially those without access to Member of Congress-level salaries)! https://lnkd.in/eJZeBr-i

WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON AT THE CITY? Normally it's Councillors and residents that are bullied, from our perspective. If these published statements are true then all residents need to be very concerned. We don’t believe the bullying culture at the City is created by the Elected Member. The Elected Members don’t have much contact with the public servants; the CEO Marten Tieleman makes sure of that. If these published statements are false; then the author is maliciously telling lies. Regardless of the TRUTH or LIEs, the Melville community has a right to know really what is going on, and how our rates are being spent. Could more staff be looking for a ‘golden payment’ to leave the City ahead of the new CEO Gail Bowman taking the reigns from Marten Tieleman? We are hopeful Gail Bowman, will sort the City’s longstanding bad culture and the mess that we continue to suffer.. We have asked Council to confirm or deny these alarming public statements ahead of the next formal Council meeting. Mayor Gear, and the City’s head of governance appear to have started trying to weasel out of providing answers publicly. We would be interested in knowing which City employees disrespected the privacy of their fellow workers? Normally it’s the privacy of Councillors and residents that is breached. What a turn around? MAKE SURE you vote at the coming elections, get your votes into the post by 15th October ready for the 21st polling day. DON'T VOTE FOR Russell AUBREY, his associates and DON’T VOTE for the Tomas FITZGERALD and George GEAR duo. This is the sort of legacy they have all left us. King’s Speech set for 17 July The opening of Parliament on Wednesday, 17 July, with the King's Speech outlining the Labour government's legislative agenda for the next year signifies a crucial moment in the political landscape. This ceremonial event sets the tone for upcoming policies and priorities, providing insight into the government's vision and plans for the future. The upcoming meeting on Tuesday, 9 July, is an opportunity for new MPs to delve into the intricate workings of parliament. This chamber briefing aims to familiarize new members with the complex and sometimes mysterious procedures that govern parliamentary activities. Labour aims to fulfil promises left unmet by the Conservatives, including a ban on no-fault evictions. This policy change could provide more security for renters and address housing affordability issues. Another policy revival proposed by Labour is a ban on young people ever being able to smoke. This initiative could help protect the health of the younger generation and reduce the prevalence of smoking among adolescents. #KingCharlesIII #KingSpeech #Parliament #Government #Labour #Politics #Political # MP #Conservatives #HouseofCommons

"The prevailing narrative for those in favor of ruthless austerity and welfare-slashing has been that ordinary, average tax-paying citizens can’t be trusted with their own government’s money. Corporations, however, get a different set of rules to play by. Can’t they be trusted with the public purse if they have a professional looking website and logo?"
