June is National Safety Month. At Lewis, we have a proven safety plan for every project. Safety requires innovation, skill and talent in addition to vigilance to assure that our most valuable resource - our employees - remain safe. A common hazard on our jobsites, and even at home, is improper use of portable ladders. Let's step up our ladder safety practices with these essential tips: ✔️ Choose the Right Ladder: Ensure it's the right height and type for the task. ✔️ Inspect Before Use: Check for any damage or wear and tear. No broken rungs! ✔️ Three Points of Contact: Always keep two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand on the ladder. ✔️ Set It Up Properly: Place on a stable, level surface. No wobbles allowed! ✔️ Don’t Overreach: Move the ladder instead of stretching too far. Keep your belt buckle between the side rails. Remember, a few extra seconds for safety can prevent a lifetime of regret. #LewisBuildsMaryland #NationalSafetyMonth #LadderSafety

June is National Safety Month. At Lewis, we have a proven safety plan for every project. Safety requires innovation, skill and talent in addition to vigilance to assure that our most valuable resource - our employees - remain safe. Construction sites are full of materials with symbols. Did you know that everyday materials and products in your home may carry the same hazardous warning symbols? ⚠️ These symbols, like ☠️ for toxic substances and 🔥 for flammable items, are crucial for identifying potential dangers. Always read labels carefully and store these products safely out of reach of children and pets. When handling hazardous materials, use protective gear and follow disposal guidelines to prevent accidents. #GMSvalues Ladder Safety Providing a safe work environment for our team members, contractors, and customers is a top priority for all of us at GMS. As we observe National Ladder Safety Month, we’ve provided some best practices below to keep you safe the next time you climb a ladder. 1. Make sure the ladder has been inspected and is in good repair. 2. Fully open step ladders with the spreaders locked. 3. Set up on sturdy, level ground. 4. When leaning a ladder, follow the 4-to-1 ratio angle. 5. Leaned ladders must extend at least 3 feet above a roof or elevated floor when accessing above. 6. Wear the right slip resistant shoes. 7. Always face the ladder when climbing. 8. Use three points of contact when climbing. 9. Follow the belt buckle rule when reaching. 10. Never allow more than one worker on the ladder at a time. #NationalLadderSafetyMonth #GypsumManagementandSupply

🚧 Yesterday, we had a great safety session at our Ben Hill Plant led by Area Safety Manager Deshawn Glenn. Deshawn covered the “Five Keys of the Smith System,” which is an essential part of our commitment to ensuring safety on the road. The Five Keys of the Smith System include: 1. Aim High in Steering - Keep your eyes on the big picture to anticipate potential hazards. 2. Get the Big Picture - Stay alert to everything happening around you to stay safe. 3. Keep Your Eyes Moving - Constant vigilance helps avoid unnecessary surprises. 4. Leave Yourself an Out - Position your vehicle where you have the best chance of avoiding a collision. 5. Make Sure They See You - Use your signals properly and ensure that you’re seen by others around you. Check out this snapshot of Deshawn engaging with the team. It’s all about keeping safety talks engaging and practical. Do you use the Smith System or similar guidelines where you work? Drop a comment and let’s chat about keeping our workplaces safe! #SafetyFirst #SmithSystem #TeamThomas #NationalSafetyMonth

Experienced Fire and Life Safety professional committed to protecting lives and property through innovative safety measures
When using a ladder, always make sure it is properly set up and stable before climbing. Check that all four feet of the ladder are securely placed on a level surface and that it is positioned at the correct angle. Always maintain three points of contact (two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand) while ascending or descending the ladder. Avoid overreaching and never stand on the top step or rung. By following these ladder safety guidelines, you can reduce the risk of falls and injuries.

Safety Saturday: Ladder Safety Starts from the Ground Up Gravity never forgets, so ladder safety is key. Always start by placing your ladder on a firm, solid surface to prevent slips and falls. For straight or extension ladders, use the 4-to-1 rule: 1 foot out for every 4 feet of height. When climbing, face the ladder, grip the rungs, and never carry tools in your hands. Inspect your ladder before use and follow these simple dos do’s and don'ts to avoid injury. Ladder safety may seem basic, but it's essential to keeping you safe at work. #LadderSafety #WorkplaceSafety #SDVConstruction #LandOfEnchantment #NewMexicoTrue #ConstructionCompany #VeteranOwned #VeteranOwnedBusiness #VeteranBusiness #NMTrue #GeneralContractors #GeneralContractor #HiringNow #ABQConstruction #ProjectManagement #ABQ #SuperIntendent #NewMexico #Construction #AwardWinning #TeamWork #SmallBusiness #ConstructionManagement [Disclosure: The information provided is intended for educational purposes only and does not constitute legal or professional advice.
