Navigating the Business Analyst Landscape: Dear New Business Analyst, As Business analysts, we perform analytical tasks at different levels, and as a new business analyst, you might be unsure about the level you are working at in your organisation. Let's delve into the four main levels you might find yourself working at: 1. Enterprise Level At the highest level of business analysis sits the enterprise level. At this level, the main focus is on the big picture, which includes the organisation's overall strategy, mission, and objectives. As a new business analyst at this level, you will work closely with senior management to ensure that all aspects of the business align with the enterprise's long-term vision. For example, suppose your company's long-term vision is to increase its market share in emerging markets by 20% within the next three years. In that case, your role might involve analysing market trends, competitive landscapes, and economic conditions in different regions to provide crucial insights to the executive team. Your recommendations will shape the entire organisation's direction, impacting decisions in sales, marketing, product development, and many other areas. Therefore, analysing and interpreting data is crucial at the enterprise level. 2. Organisational Level As a new business analyst working at an organisational level, your role is to bridge the gap between the company's high-level strategy and its various departments or business units. Your focus should be understanding how different areas within the organisation can work together to achieve a common goal. You will facilitate communication between departments, ensuring their actions align with the company's strategic direction. 3. Project Level As a New business analyst at the project level, you will be hands-on, focusing on projects or initiatives. You will collaborate with project managers, developers, testers and end-users to define requirements, analyse data, and solve specific problems. 4. Operational Level As a new business analyst operating at the operational level, your primary focus is to ensure that the projects and processes you handle are aligned with the specific departments' or units' operational goals. Your role requires you to delve into the nitty-gritty of the day-to-day activities, optimising workflows and processes to enhance efficiency. These daily activities are commonly referred to as "business as usual." It's important to note that these levels are not isolated silos. The beauty of business analysis is in how these levels intersect and support one another. Your role as a business analyst is to be the orchestrator, ensuring that all levels harmonise to reach the organisation's strategic objectives. So, dear new business analyst, embrace the interconnected nature of your role and make your mark at whatever level you find yourself. Share what level you are working at in the comment. #businessanalyst
