Pride Month celebrates the diversity and resilience of the LBGTQ+ community. At LexisNexis South Africa, we recognise the importance of fostering an inclusive society. South Africa has been a beacon of progress, with our Constitution providing protection against discrimination for all. As a testament to this commitment, in 2006, South Africa became the first country in Africa to legalise same-sex unions. While we celebrate these milestones, we also acknowledge the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month is about raising awareness and advocating for equality. This Pride Month let’s renew our commitment to creating a world where acceptance and equality are celebrated every day. #LexisNexisZA #AdvancingAfricasRuleofLaw #PrideMonth

Today, 28 May is LGBTQ+ Domestic Violence Awareness Day. It is an important day where we recognise that domestic and family violence (DFV) occurs in LGBTQ relationships and that DFV survivors and those struggling in abusive relationships need to be believed and supported. In Australia, workplaces are increasingly recognising the importance of supporting employees who may be experiencing domestic, family, and intimate partner violence (DFV), including those from LGBTQ+ communities. Here are some resources and organisations worth looking into: 🌈LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation: www.dvafoundation.org 🌈Say It Out Loud is a national resource that provides information, support, and resources to address abuse in LGBTQ+ relationships: sayitoutloud.org.au 🌈Fair Work Ombudsman: https://lnkd.in/ebiN4Yzn

Anti-LGBTQ+ violence happens when vulnerable individuals don't get the legal and social protections they need. This can happen in any society, but our research with REDRESS focused on the issue in 11 African states. We found that many offered little or no legal protection for individuals from the LGBTQ+ community. In some cases, new legislation has even increased violent incidents. To combat this, our report outlines specific proposals that countries all over the world can use to drive change. And you can read more about those at: https://ow.ly/KOXS50Sn4f0

LGBTQ+ teens are more susceptible to online sexual abuse and exploitation than their non-LGBTQ+ peers. This increased risk is attributed to the discrimination and isolation they often face, making them more vulnerable to predatory behaviours online. Thorn’s 2023 report underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions to protect LGBTQ+ youth in digital spaces. For further details, see the full report at [Thorn 2023](https://lnkd.in/gHYfXBhK). Thorn Suojellaan Lapsia ChildSafeNet #LGBTQ+ #OnlineSexualAbuse #Thorn #ChildSafeNet

Thailand is poised to be a trailblazer in Southeast Asia for marriage equality with the lower house’s recent passage of a groundbreaking bill to legalize same-sex marriages. Awaiting the nod from the Senate and the royal endorsement, this bill marks a turning point, potentially positioning Thailand as the region’s first to legalize such unions. This advancement is a testament to the tireless activism of the LGBTQ+ community in Thailand. The Lookmai Project, in solidarity with these efforts, celebrates this leap towards equality. We are proud to have been a voice and advocate in this journey, reinforcing the right of LGBTQ+ couples to equal legal recognition in financial, property, and health-related decisions. #lgbtq #lookmaiproject #lgbtqia #samesexmarriage #marriageequality #lovewins

Ghana's parliament recently passed a deeply concerning anti-LGBTQ bill, marking a significant setback for LGBTQ rights not only in Africa but also reflecting a global issue of intolerance and discrimination. This legislation would imprison individuals for up to three years simply for identifying as LGBTQ, with penalties extending up to five years for those supporting LGBTQ+ activities. This harsh stance mirrors the ongoing struggles within the United States, where anti-LGBTQ sentiments and legislation continue to challenge the rights and freedoms of the community. It's a stark reminder of the global fight for equality and the need for solidarity across borders. At JULIAN, we stand firm in our commitment to fighting for the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. This bill's passage is not just a step back for Ghana but a call to action for everyone who believes in human rights and equality. https://lnkd.in/gECCn9dU #StandWithLGBTQ #EqualityForAll #GlobalSolidarity #HumanRights
