Collaboration is an essential element of operational readiness!
News from British Columbia: We’re looking forward to welcoming members of 17 coastal First Nations, including members of the Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary, to Victoria to talk Search and Rescue next week. Continuing work that started under the Oceans Protection Plan, our Indigenous Community Response Training team has a long history of working with the coastal Nations, helping the nations to upgrade their equipment, training together and learning from each other. Now we look to the future: supporting collaborative and resilient coastal search and rescue on the west coast to benefit coastal communities and all Canadians.

💡Thursday Thoughts: What is Private Safeguarding? 👑Private safeguarding is about protecting ourselves and others from harm. We all make mistakes, and sometimes, what we do and say can hurt others or get hurt by them. This can happen anywhere, at work, church, school, home, or with friends, making us sad, scared, worried, or confused. ☂️Just like an umbrella that keeps us safe from the rain, private safeguarding protects us from being hurt by others. It's crucial because we are special to God and deserve to feel safe. Our top priorities are our board, employees, volunteers, befrienders, and residents' safety. 🪻At Beauty for Ashes Refuges (Safety for Migrant Women), we value residents' feedback because it is critical to maintaining trust in our faith, values, corporate code of conduct, and ethics in private safeguarding. Our residents' feedback is not just important; it's essential. ✝️The Creator Wheel Philippians 4:9 ESV "What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." #safeguarding #thinktank #globalpeopledevelopment

Scott Robinson, Deputy Director of Government Affairs, INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE FIGHTERS As a firefighter and public sector employee, I can't help but shake my head at The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. On page 82 of the Mandate for Leadership, they suggest that congress make public-sector unions illegal. Imagine a world where essential services, like firefighting, are driven solely by political agendas and not by the people who actually do the work. What could possibly go wrong? Clearly, the path to better governance is through more bureaucracy and less representation for those who risk their lives every day. The Idea that local governements will protect their fire fighters and their communities is a joke. As someone on the front lines, I can tell you this: weakening public-sector unions will only undermine our ability to protect and serve our communities effectively. hashtag#Firefighter hashtag#PublicSector hashtag#Unions hashtag #STOPProject2025 hashtag #RUINEDHeritage hashtag #FaultyFoundation

It’s complicated to care for people, navigate neighborhood and city politics, and get things built. Our culture says “the math doesn’t work” when low income commmunities demand equity. Profit for those who already have wealth is the priority in most all housing conversations. The same home built in Leawood, KS and the Lykins Neighborhood of KCMO will cost the same to construct in either location. But the financial value after it is built is appraised by the “market” in the location it is built. So, since Leawood has a greater “value” than Lykins, the same home is worth less (legacy of “Redlining”). A good comparison is to imagine if you buy a Tesla and drive it through both neighborhoods. We would think someone foolish if they said that by driving a Tesla in a poor community, it is now worth less than when it was in Leawood. But, when the asset cannot move, it’s value is based on the worth that our culture has for the other people living around the asset, not the asset itself. A car is worth the same in both communities. A new home is worth what a mortgage lender values the “neighborhood” that the new home is in. Not the actual value of the asset. When it comes to housing development, Profit is King. Why would you build where the home is worth less? For 50 years, there hasn’t been new home construction (except for the work of Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City ) in the Lykins neighborhood because everyone who looks into it comes to the same conclusion. They (residents of Lykins) are not worth it. Choosing to built with the same level of care that can be demanded in Leawood, but placing that in Lykins, is a choice to deny “Profit as King” and instead say “our neighbors deserve better”. , Reda Ibrahim and Cesar Cea, PE show that good people will sacrifice for their community. Even when everyone else is too afraid to take the risk. They stopped believing the lie that $ = value. They built an asset in a community and they show us a path for People = Value thinking in new home construction in KCMO.
Take⭐5 minutes⭐out of your day to see how compassion, shared vision, partnership, and action transforms our community for the better 😊 https://lnkd.in/dZQbtghh
