How to spot AI generated writing? While there are numerous ways, one of the easiest is to spot the use of icons such as: A 🚀 when writing about growth, a 🌈 when writing about LGBTQ+, a 🏃🏿♂️ when writing about Usian Bolt, or a 🦜 when writing about people who copy+paste from #ChatGPT. Let's be honest, in an era where 99% don't know that Alt+tab can be used to navigate different tabs on our laptops, it is impossible to know hotkeys for such icons. 🤷♂️ In case you're wondering how I did it 🤔, I copy-pasted these icons from my #whatsapp for desktop 💻 application. FYI: I tried to copy-paste the 'wheelchair' icon to give an example of topics on Stephen Hawking, but it didn't work! Do you know the hotkey for a 'guy-sitting-on-wheelchair'? Let me know in the comments section 🤓 #justsaying #AI #generativeAI #genuinecontent #spotthebot

Today marks the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, a pivotal moment in 1969 that ignited the LGBTQIA+ rights movement. While we celebrate the significant progress made, we acknowledge that discrimination and social stigma still affect many lives. In order to continue the fight for equality and understanding, AI technology also gives its contribution with the introduction of the new project "AI Comes Out of the Closet." This online study, created by MIT graduates Daniel Pillis and Pat Pataranutaporn, uses AI-generated dialogue and virtual characters to simulate real-world scenarios that LGBTQIA+ individuals face, especially the challenges of coming out in the workplace. By merging technological innovation with a dedication to inclusivity, this initiative aims to foster empathy, understanding, and advocacy skills, contributing to the ongoing struggle for equality both legally and socially. “There's something about queer culture that celebrates the artificial through kitsch, camp, and performance," says D. Pillis. 🌈✨ Let's embrace and celebrate this unique culture today and every day! 🌈✨ Discover more about their project on: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dWiyBWEw #PrideMonth #technews #AI #LGBTQIA

AI uses what it’s been fed to build what it deems to be the “perfect” version of a user’s query. But when it comes to images of queer people, AI’s interpretation is far from perfect. A recent Wired article (https://lnkd.in/gWYQqnar) found generative AI tools like Stable Diffusion and Midjourney built images that “universally responded with stereotypical depictions of LGBTQ culture” — fair-skinned men and women with chiseled abs or short hair and nose rings. Images of nonbinary people rarely appeared. Steven M. Koch, a queer Chicago photographer and Bigmouth collaborator, uses AI as a brainstorming tool or to fill in the background gaps in a larger image after further modification. But he draws a hard line when it comes to AI and depicting real people. “AI is trying to epitomize a fantasy,” he says. “But that’s the individual choice of each artist. I don’t trust AI to create anything that’s specific toward our community.” Clients are already turning to AI for murals and employee headshots, and Steven says creatives are responsible for teaching them the power of genuinely good photography. “I feel artists will consistently push the idea of authenticity,” he says. The topic of awareness around AI’s biases is particularly relevant during Pride month, when idealized images of LGBTQ+ people are frequently used in rainbow-washing 🌈 (See our previous post on this: https://lnkd.in/dNBVu7dD). “AI will pander to a wide audience and do its best not to anger or challenge,” Steven says. “Don’t take AI at its word — thinking outside its box will help AI become more of a tool than something people rely on.” ➡ LEARN MORE: Steven recommends the Apple TV+ documentary Visible: Out on Television to anyone interested in learning how images of LGBTQ+ people in popular culture have shaped our perception and shifted over time: https://lnkd.in/d8ZpxTA3 #AI #queerrepresentation #bias #lgbtq+ #authenticity

Embracing Authentic Representation: Why Generative AI Falls Short in LGBTQ+ Visibility As visual media professionals, our quest for culturally responsive content is ever-evolving. The emergence of generative AI promised to revolutionize our creative process, but beneath its convenience lies a profound challenge: AI's inability to grasp cultural nuance. In a recent article by our very own Genevieve Ross, Creative Director at Stocksy, she delves into the complexities of AI-generated imagery, particularly in the portrayal of LGBTQ+ individuals. Despite its extensive capabilities, AI often perpetuates stereotypes and fails to capture the vast diversity of queer experiences. From skewed depictions on search engines to the challenges of categorizing nonbinary and transgender identities, AI struggles to authentically represent the LGBTQ+ community. Furthermore, the sensitive nature of data collection on sexual orientation and gender identity presents ethical and legal hurdles that AI can’t navigate. At Stocksy, we recognize the urgent need for human-centric representation. By harnessing the emotional depth and lived experiences of human creators, we can better represent LGBTQ+ communities and individuals. Our ability to adapt to changing societal dynamics and counteract biases ingrained in AI algorithms ensures that our content remains relevant, respectful, and inclusive. Join us in prioritizing human-created content to promote authentic LGBTQ+ visibility and share human stories that resonate with empathy and awareness. https://hubs.li/Q02qZ8Pp0 #LGBTQRepresentation #Authenticity #HumanCreativity #InclusiveMedia #Stocksy
