Big Mooncake for Little Star, a charming book about a little girl who just cannot for the life of her stay away from giving a mooncake some "nibble-nibble-yums," was banned from being taught. Why? Banning books is quickly becoming a tool of political organizing, and we should all be invested in why and how this affects us. Come learn more at the NAPABA Civil Rights Committee's webinar, "The Effort to Erase AAPIs and DEI from Our Children's Books," is next week! Pleas consider registering and tuning in! Also, this is the second in our 3-part series, Race, Books, and Education: Selective Erasure, Misinformation, and Reclaiming Our Stories. If you missed the first one, and are a NAPABA member, you can still watch it. And, if you want to watch the third one, stay tuned!
Bookshelves have become battlefields as state and local governments have banned books that reference race, ethnicity, or LGBTQ+ themes. This session, the second in NAPABA’s “Race, Books, and Education” Series, will address book bans, their current status, the motivations behind them, the misinformation surrounding them, and the damage they cause.
