The Center is honored to receive a generous donation from Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Metropolitan Chapter during #PrideMonth! We loved giving these fantastic young representatives of Jack and Jill a tour of our historic building, and are so inspired by their spirit of philanthropy to support our programs and services for all LGBTQ+ New Yorkers! 🏳️🌈 There's still time! If you would like to make a donation before Pride ends, visit https://lnkd.in/epMkK5-Z.

Some thoughts I have about #PrideMonth this year and how organizations can support the LGBTQ+ members of key audiences.
At Slide Nine, we embrace diversity and inclusion not just as seasonal observances, but as pillars of our work culture. We proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community, not just during Pride Month but every day. Through our unique philanthropy initiative, we empower our team members to make a difference by providing each with $1,000 to donate to causes of their choice that promote a safer, more equitable world. #HappyPride #Community #DEI

LGBTQ+ led and serving organizations are chronically under resourced. According to Funders for LGBQT Issues’ Grantmaking by US Foundations Report, for every $100 awarded by US foundations in 2021, only 28 cents specifically supported LGBTQ communities and issues; foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to trans communities and issues. These numbers are alarming, but they speak to the lack of investment in LGBTQ+ led and serving work - Which is why organizations like ours are so reliant on community donations! Please join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives and futures of systems-impacted trans and queer people this Give OUT Day! https://lnkd.in/gzupHnkN

WHY IT MATTERS:
Thrilled that M&T Bank is supporting the Equality Community Center with $20,000 to further their mission and important work. We look forward to partnering with the ECC throughout the year and making a difference in our community! The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is the first of its kind in Maine - a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice-seeking non-profit organizations while also serving as a community center for Maine’s LGBTQ+ community. My colleagues Mike Ross, Isaac Yeboah Yeboah, Katie Rooks of M&T Bank, and Wilmington Trust's Jerry Weidner of Wilmington Trust enjoyed a tour and presented a $20,000 donation to the ECC. “The funds from The M&T Charitable Foundation will support our efforts so we can continue to provide a space where everyone can be their authentic selves and thrive.” - Chris O’Connor, Executive Director, ECC Board

A Critical Mission: Supporting Mental Health Among Black LGBTQ Youth Recent data highlights a concerning trend: Black youth who identify as LGBTQ are significantly more likely to contemplate suicide than their peers. This is not just a statistic; it's a call to immediate action. "A Cup of Tea with a Black Woman" is on the front lines, advocating for mental health support and intervention strategies tailored to the unique needs of Black LGBTQ youth. Our programs are designed to offer not just support, but empowerment, understanding, and paths to resilience. We need your help to reach more young people in need. Your donation can fund critical resources, support groups, and educational initiatives that make a tangible difference. Let’s unite in this vital effort to ensure that Black LGBTQ youth across the nation receive the support and affirmation they deserve. Your contribution today is an investment in a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow. To make a donation, please visit our website. -> https://lnkd.in/ghcDC6s2 Together, we can create lasting change. #MentalHealthSupport #LGBTQYouth #SocialImpact #ACupOfTeaWithABlackWoman

It's essential to address the issue of gatekeeping in funding allocation within organizations claiming to serve marginalized communities. The practice of using the "T" in LGBTQ to secure maximum funding for trans individuals, while not effectively supporting or serving them, is DIABOLICAL WORK. Many cisgender-led organizations prioritize funding over genuine service delivery to the trans community, even though local Trans-led organizations are actively engaged in providing essential support and services. This disparity highlights the need for transparency and accountability in resource allocation. As a Black Trans ED navigating funding opportunities, being aware of these challenges is crucial. Upholding integrity and ensuring that resources reach those who need them the most is key to fostering inclusivity and equity within the nonprofit sector. #FundingEquity #TransRights #NonprofitLeadership
