This is something we often see with E&P operators at our Crüe Club events—they underestimate the time, energy, and effort required to build genuine connections and strong networks. Many leaders think they can build a network when they need it, but by then it's probably too late. In reality, connections take time. Just because you’re ready to network, does that mean others are? If you need a strong network tomorrow, is waiting until the last minute the right approach when relationships take time to develop? Our Crüe Club Topic Series events are among the best in the industry for connecting with E&P Operators and engaging in insightful, educational conversations. Conferences are a great way to build relationships. But, most people waste the opportunity. At our agency, we realized getting on planes, attending sessions, flying back, and returning to the day-to-day – business as usual – was a waste of time and money. Thanks to the leadership of Brooke White, Melissa Dorko, and John Kadlic, we got strategic with conferences. As a result, we made amazing connections, built long-term relationships, and generated new opportunities for the company. Gamechanger. How can you get more out of attending a conference in 2024? ➡️ Make your network aware you are attending. ➡️ Access the attendee list in advance, if possible. ➡️ Set up coffee meetings to make the best use of time. ➡️ Introduce yourself to people seated next to you or in line. ➡️ Make notes about each person you meet and what you discuss. ➡️ Follow up afterward with a thank you and share a relevant takeaway. ➡️ Make an effort to stay in touch quarterly to keep the relationship alive. ➡️ Expect nothing in return as these are seeds you are planting long term. Kelly Mooney recently posted about making the most of conferences, and it sparked such a great discussion that we had to share some of the top tips people contributed: John Kadlic - If you are speaking, offer attendees something of value like your slides or research. It keeps people engaged and positions you as a contributing member of the conference community. Suzanne Ecker - Don't just network during "networking" times. Be open to connecting throughout the conference - in sessions, in line, at meals. Some of my best connections started with impromptu conversations. Mat Mildenhall - Be strategic with your evenings. Co-hosting dinners allows you to mix interesting groups. Jennifer Gold- Set clear objectives beforehand - whether it's networking, learning or business development. And be proactive in scheduling meetings and engaging actively in sessions. Eric Head - If you're an exhibitor, schedule meetings and host dinners ahead of time with clients and prospects. It's a great way to get quality time. These are fantastic tips for making the most of industry conferences this year. What other advice do you have for maximizing these events?

While the value of attending conferences is the networking opportunities, meeting strangers in a professional social setting, even as an adult, can lead to anxiety as many professionals are quite shy and introverted in person despite being sociable online—myself included. For my fellow introverts, breaking the ice and networking can seem daunting. Here are a few tips that have helped me: 1. Prepare Conversation Starters: Have a few go-to questions or comments ready, such as "What did you think of the keynote speech?" or "What brings you to this event?" 2. Set Small Goals: Aim to have meaningful conversations with just a few people. Tip: Get a list beforehand of who is attending or research who the speakers are and make it a goal to speak to a few of them. 3. Leverage Breaks: Use coffee breaks and social gatherings to casually introduce yourself to others. Tip: Find your way into an attendee dinner where networking is more relaxed. 4. Find Common Ground: Look for people with similar interests or challenges. This makes starting a conversation easier. 5. Be Yourself: Authenticity goes a long way. People appreciate genuine interactions. Remember, everyone at the conference is there for the same reason – to learn and network. Networking doesn't have to be overwhelming. Most attendees are just as shy as you might feel. With a few strategies, even the shyest among us can make valuable connections. #Networking #InboxExpo2024 #ProfessionalGrowth
