My review of this title below coming out in SYMPLOKÉ soon, scheduled for publication in symploke 32 (2024) Patrick Colm Hogan, Bradley J. Irish, Lalita Pandit Hogan (Eds.), The Routledge Companion to Literature and Emotion. Abingdon: Routledge, 2022, 520 pages. ISBN 978-0-36740915-9. $399. It is almost a truism that through the multi-sensory act of reading, fiction has the capacity to reel in audiences and draw readers emotionally into story worlds causing them to have their moods affected. Some readers strongly respond to fictional texts, either by harboring sympathy for characters – although that is not a given as Derek Matravers’ contribution makes it clear – or else by disengaging from the narrative with appropriate feelings of boredom, dissatisfaction, disgust, outrage, puzzlement. The Routledge Companion to Literature and Emotion, expertly edited by Bradley J. Irish, and Lalita Pandit Hogan, and Patrick Colm Hogan, explores the emotional effects that literature can have on readers with an array of theoretical essays and case studies.

Today's post is on "The Bone Tree," by Greg Iles. This is the second novel in the Natchez Burning trilogy, and as noted before, Iles is an amazing writer who, despite the lengthy books, keeps the reader engaged. This one continues to explore the history and family and secrets. The book can be found at https://lnkd.in/ghtWi8Zq
