A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE WITH FINNISH NYE TRADITION Have you tried it before? That's age-old custom: beeswax fortune telling, which brought me closer to a fascinating Finnish tradition. The process is pretty simple: melt a small piece of beeswax and then carefully pour it into a bowl of cold water. As the wax solidifies, it forms intriguing shapes, each a mystery to decipher. In the past, people used to melt tin, but sugar or beeswax are cheaper, safer, lead-free alternative with the same experience. My friends and I got: a horseshoe, an elephant and an Euro sign € 🐴 a horseshoe: A new job or a promotion ahead – a very lucky year 🐘: Great achievements and an adventurous year ahead There's no Euro sign 💶 in the traditional list. Two people that you see in this wonderful video made by tiket.com are our Blind and Deaf Mentees: Zaenal and Fauzi. This interaction and collaboration truly fills my soul! I am so proud of both tiket.com as a company and its employees (our Mentors), but also the interns (our Mentees) for making it happen. Together they break the glass ceiling: employing, embracing, accepting and working with persons with Disability! Because even though Disability employment has progressed in recent years, we haven't solved all problems yet. According to 2020 data, there's only 28.6% of PwD in Indonesia that work in the formal sector. Therefore through our Leadership & Inclusive Training (LIT) programs, Yayasan Helping Hands is creating a concrete and sustainable ecosystem that connects special education schools and companies. We are working with various stakeholders to ensure that students with Disability are getting the knowledge, skills and real experience that are needed to thrive and succeed in the 21st century. It's easy to say that disability should not be a barrier to achieve success, but it's harder to accept that it should not be a barrier for all of US to achieve success TOGETHER. This is my invitation for us to see what we can do as an individual and company to open up work accessibility to PwD. Happy Solstice! I wanted to start this post by referring to today’s Summer Solstice. This astronomical event holds a strong spiritual and symbolic focus on renewal, growth, vitality, transition and change into our lives. Six months ago was my last working week at dsm-firmenich in the role as Global Head of Sales Excellence Taste in the Taste, Texture & Health BU. After thorough consideration, I knew it was time for change in my career. I took a personal decision to leave the flavors & ingredients industry and corporate business after 25+ years of service to pursue other opportunities starting a new purpose driven venture in the field of wellbeing. I started back in 1999 as Junior Sales Manager at Quest Iberia and since then enjoyed a diverse and longstanding career at some of the top flavor houses which allowed me to learn and develop as a person and professional, as well as to meet so many great people of different cultures. I would like to pass my gratitude to dsm-firmenich for the opportunities and development the company provided over the past six years. Sharon Labbate, Maurizio Clementi for having given me a home in Taste & Beyond at legacy Firmenich, and to Dr. Elisabeth Hirschbichler, Marianne Kentie for the collaboration as a new team in the TTH Strategy Marketing & Transformation community of dsm-firmenich. And a special thanks to all the dear friends and colleagues whom I have had the privilege and pleasure to work with! In the flavors industry – the world of taste, nutrition and health – people and the planet are at the heart of what the business is dedicated to. The biggest lesson that I take with me is the passion for people and the purpose to impact their lives. The past half year was a period of free time, travel, deeper understanding of personal desires, focus on inner growth, and renewed energy and purpose. I have now started the transition to the next chapter in my career and life, and kicked off the strategic process of my new venture. The ambition is to build a social enterprise that seeks to provide systemic solutions to achieve more social equality of opportunity across communities. 📌 Happy National Nougat Day! Why am I celebrating this day? Well, because it’s such a rich part of my culture. But, also…wait for it… Nougat is typically made by mixing egg whites together and adding honey or sugar, roasted nuts, and sometimes candied fruit. In Italy, they call it torrone. In Spain, a nougat is called turrón. Now, I’ll shamelessly HR tie it all together: Culture is critical, created and modeled by leadership! The buck stops there. Here is the recipe: 🥣 Mix everyone together (focus on making meaningful connections and create opportunities for that to happen – yes, get up and walk and talk to those in your charge, as a priority). 🍯 Add honey AND sugar (focus on taking care of each other; empathy and kindness goes a long way; just do right by your employees whatever that looks like). 🍉 Throw in some nuts and fruits for good measure (focus on supporting and developing your teams; ensure everyone feels heard and given opportunities at all levels).
