On Tuesday the 8th of October, our partner GNE Finance had the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus project SHERLOCK workshop in Bratislava, focusing on energy renovation of buildings in Europe. During the event, GNE engaged with the participants to share the objectives of the AIRE project for the next three years. SHERLOCK project is developing a MOOC-based micro-masters programme and a VET (Vocational Education and Training) oriented short course based on micro-credentials and case study education. This initiative targets students and professionals from both the building energy retrofit sector and the financial sector. https://lnkd.in/ekS2ZxE6

The ESB dams were the toast of the world 100 years ago and brought Ireland out of the dark ages. But they are not sustainable renewable energy producers in todays terms. The dams would not pass today's EIA requirements. In their teaching to students, the ESB need to adopt new expertise to repurpose, redesign, improve nature and biodiversity issues and right the wrongs we now understand. The Liffey has three Hydroelectric Dams. They are now relatively minor in the overall power provision. They do have other important aspects such as flood management and water supply. But as the currently operate they are nature and biodiversity killers.
🌍 Site Visit to ESB Ardnacrusha Power Station As part of the TUS Flexible Learning Certificate in Community Energy Development programme, students recently had the opportunity to visit the iconic Ardnacrusha Power Station. A huge thank you to Dermot Finnan for being such a knowledgeable guide and for sharing invaluable insights about the facility's history and its role in Ireland's energy landscape.
