𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵?
In recent weeks, I've been talking with startup coaches, investors, and edtech experts about joining our accelerator as experts or Startup coaches.
I’ve been particularly interested in their motivation to working with EdTech startups beyond their current successful careers.
These conversations have revealed just how dedicated they are to making a difference in education, rather than just watching from the sidelines. Many have direct connections to education—some as school governors who see the problems up close, others as advisors, and some are entrepreneurs whose own children are facing challenges in the current system.
A recent discussion really opened my eyes. A startup expert who is also a school governor told me, “𝗔𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹, 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱—𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀' 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.” That statement truly underscores a pressing need for help and alternative solutions.
A common assumption is that edtech primarily focuses on creating new curricula or digital platforms. However, I've observed a significant shift: more schools, teachers, and parents are discussing the impact of students' mental health on their academic performance and presence in school. Additionally, there's been a noticeable increase in our applications to our #GoTogether #acclerator of edtech startups developing solutions specifically targeted at improving students' mental health.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. What challenges are schools in your area facing, and what do you think could really make a difference? Please share your thoughts in the comment below.
