Time for a brew and a read about the recent shared learnings on where Swimming's Workforce Governance has failed to prevent people from being harmed.
Workforce Governance is an ethos of accountability, achieved through systems, processes and structures that prioritise public protection, safety and wellbeing.
I'm at page 7 and devastated to read...
"An important overall finding of the research is that the main types of experiences shared are the same now as they were in the past. Former and current athletes reported similar positive and negative experiences, indicating that even past or historic issues are ongoing and systemic."

Can you be a successful, responsible and a well governed organisation if your Workforce Governance fails?
Failing to learn is the most heartbreaking thing I observe in the many cases that I have been part of investigating or researched. This should never happen.
An organisations culture that isn't founded on listening to stakeholders, acting on low level concerns and looking at how its system can actively reduce the likelihood of harm happening to anyone, not just those classed as children, young people and at risk adults, is a system in my humble opinion, that is waiting to fail.
Being able to consider legislation, regulation, governance, organisational design, culture, resource management, people development, people resources, performance management, supervision, mentoring, ongoing training and development, the physical, technological and interconnected environments, in conjunction with the relationship that these have with the workforce and the public, are all included within our Workforce Governance Effectiveness System.
This approach helps organisations to explore where they can learn and improve, without the need for significant cases of harm to be raised or a public level inquiry.
I'm looking forward to reading more about the brave stories shared which will inspire change in many organisations. How different ideas for solutions will stimulate a change in culture and accountability, in a sport very close to my heart.
For any of our connections who want to discuss improving your Workforce Governance, please reach out, we'd be more than happy to book in a call.
