It's Life Insurance Awareness Month. And yet again, the industry is bemoaning the life insurance gap.
In the Life Insurance Strategies Group This Week in Life Insurance video on Friday (available below), I suggest that maybe if the industry wants to make that gap smaller, it's time to try something new to address it.
One step in the right direction - the way that the LIMRA and Life Happens 2024 Life Insurance Fact Sheet (link below) has sections dedicated to:
👉 Being an ally to LGBTA+ people;
👉 The way women continue to lag men in terms of coverage; and
👉 The importance of social media to getting the message out.
Back in June, I bemoaned the lack of discussion around LGBTQ+ consumers during Pride from the industry and industry groups. If we actually want to address the life insurance gap, we need to understand where that gap exists and why and then take the necessary action to address it.
Otherwise, Life Insurance Awareness Month 2034 and 2044 and 2054 are going to be a playing of the same old "life insurance gap" tune.
