🎤 💡 👨🔬 🦻 In our first TRAIN Academy Keynote Lecture of 2025, Daniel Keppeler explained how optical cochlear implants could fundamentally revolutionize the hearing perception of deaf and hearing-impaired people. He showed the groundbreaking technology behind it, which will significantly enhance the quality of hearing with an implant. He also elaborated on the challenging transformation from a researcher to one of the leaders of the start-up OptoGenTech GmbH. The foundation of OptoGenTech GmbH is based on research work at the Universitätsmedizin Göttingen, the Deutsches Primatenzentrum GmbH in Göttingen, the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and the Technische Universität Chemnitz as well as the seed funding of Photonik Inkubator GmbH Göttingen. 🔦 🧬 🔬 🧪 The approach of using photonic methods to improve hearing has developed rapidly in recent years. Daniel gave us an overview of the current state of research, focusing on the optical control of genetically modified cells. This innovative technology has the potential to advance life sciences in various fields beyond hearing restoration. 💡💰 💁♀️ 🙋 His presentation offered a valuable glimpse into the critical aspects of founding a life science start-up, particularly the challenges of financing it from start to finish. OptoGenTech GmbH faced hurdles when seeking investors, as many were only willing to engage at a more advanced stage. Daniel emphasized the importance of support from accelerators or incubators, which provided essential guidance during the company's foundational steps. Moreover, an engaged start-up team and an experienced project manager among others played a key role in overcoming initial obstacles. 🧑💻 📳 📈 Daniel also shared insights into the diverse responsibilities of leading a start-up as CEO, where decision-making spans all areas of the business. This requires not only expertise but also a willingness to take calculated risks. 🎤 🤝 🍹 The success of OptoGenTech GmbH has been reached by networking at events like the TRAIN Academy Keynote Lecture. Direct discussions and connections at such gatherings have provided crucial ideas and support, enabling the company to make remarkable progress. 🦻 👏 ✨ OptoGenTech GmbH aims to launch the optical cochlear implant (oCI) by 2036. We extend our best wishes to Daniel and his team as they continue on this inspiring journey! #LifeScience #Research #Science #Translation #Startup #Optogenetics #OptoGenTechGmbH

Axoft's high-density electrode design is reshaping how we communicate with the nervous system. With a density 1,000 times higher than current soft probes, Axoft's technology allows for high-resolution neural communication without compromising biocompatibility. This leads to improved stability and reduced tissue damage over time. 📊 Data shows Axoft's implant is 10,000 times softer than existing flexible electronics, demonstrating long-term signal stability and the ability to track single neurons for over a year. 🔍 Practical Tip: For medtech innovators, partnering with a Medtech-only CRO like bioaccess® is key to navigating the regulatory and operational complexities of clinical trials in Latin America. This collaboration is vital for startups like Axoft to conduct successful early feasibility studies. Stay informed, stay innovative! #Neurotechnology #ClinicalTrials https://lnkd.in/ePj74h8f

Parents usually want their children to follow in their footsteps. But sometimes life takes a different turn. In my case, I wasn't "Nalayak" but my love for maths and physics led me to Biotechnology, Medical devices, and Life Sciences. Today, I got to experience the best of both worlds! I was able to observe our Laparoscopy tower in live surgery, and it was an amazing feeling to see our product performing well and being praised by the doctors. I might not have become a doctor, but I now have a hang of both sides! Above all it's good to innovate a world class medical device & get satisfied customers. That's the real high ! #biotechnology #lifesciences #meddevices #entrepreneurship #businessmanagement #careeropportunities #healthcareindustry UnivLabs Technologies Pvt Ltd

1. Researchers at University College London developed a device called BAMH that mimics human touch to enable long-distance interactions. 2. The device can potentially be used in robot-assisted surgeries to evaluate tissue types, including detecting cancerous tissues. 3. BAMH stimulates nerve cells through vibrations, simulating realistic touch sensations. 4. The technology may serve as a diagnostic tool for conditions like metacarpal tunnel syndrome and diabetes, which affect touch sensitivity. 5. The device includes a silicone fingertip linked to a machine, providing a realistic sense of touch by stimulating key sensory nerve cells. 6. Researchers plan to conduct clinical trials with individuals experiencing loss of sensation to study touch degradation over time. 7. Advanced versions of the device, such as gloves, could assist in safely handling hazardous materials, like in nuclear waste decommissioning. 8. The technology was presented at the British Science Festival, highlighting its potential applications in healthcare and other fields.

Medical Design & Outsourcing editor Jim Hammerand speaks with our CEO Carolina Aguilar about graphene-based #BCI technology and its unique advantages. 🧠🧠 “In this field, there is a race to put as many contacts as you want or you think you need,” Aguilar said. “.. But I think it’s not about who can put more contacts on the surface of the brain. It’s more about what those contacts can do clinically in a relevant and meaningful way for the patient. We can not forget about that, because this is not a technology race.” Read the article: 👇👇 https://lnkd.in/evr7HGNk
