A key partnership between ventureLAB and Sterling Industries leads to a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen the local MedTech community, and support the development of tomorrow’s life-changing medical devices. https://lnkd.in/erXwbQkm This MOU is great news as the MedTech stream available through the HCI will continue to support new startups as they test new hardware devices for healthcare and assist them with guidance as they aim to scale-up their businesses to compete in a highly competitive market in Canada and abroad. The Hardware Catalyst Initiative (HCI) at ventureLAB – with labs in Markham and Vaughan – is an important component of the life sciences and health tech ecosystem in the region; which is home to more than 300 sector related companies. #YorkRegion #Vaughan #MOU #MedTech #YRtech #TechnologyTest #HealthTech #LifeSciences #HardwareCatalystInitiative #Hardware #HardwareDevices #HCI David Van Slingerland, Hugh Chow, Nima Khadem Mohtaram, Ph.D. Vaughan Economic Development Raphael Costa

John Ashley has developed a 12-point plan for medical device venture founders, including several focus areas that are non-negotiable when planning for success. According to John, the focus areas of the plan provide a blueprint for success. As he says, “Unless you focus on foundation issues you’re going to end up with a rudderless ship. Although many of these focus areas are business plan 101, there are complexities in the early-stage medical device innovation venture that need to be addressed before plotting the way toward a successful exit. Successfully navigating these unique challenges requires a detailed approach.” Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/e-kitWzW

MedTech Innovator just released the Mid-Stage Grand Finalist and Value Award Finalists! I want to first congratulate ALL the companies that have participated in the program over the past several months. Recognition like this is a celebration of the accomplishments of over 90 companies in this year's cohort. For this post related to the "Value Award", I'd like to recognize Allen Waziri of iCE Neurosystems, Inc., who was also part of the American Heart Association #CHTI accelerator track in partnership with MedTech Innovator. Allen, is a clinician who recognized the need that #EEG data is severely underutilized, reported 3% utilization versus the guideline recommended 100% of the time. In this case, I think the use of "award" represents recognizing an amazing individual that devoted his professional career, as an interventional neuro surgeon, to the care of patients, and then took it a step further when he saw he could create a new method to bring a routine care procedure, that is often under performed into mainstream care; due to time, cost, and personnel constraints. Allen accomplished this without a background as an entrepreneur and persevered with courage in the face of many, many challenges. This "value award" is measured by value proposition, patient benefit, health economic impact and other factors. The finals will be at the MedTech Strategist conference this month in San Diego, CA. All companies in the MTI program participate in this process and deem it one of the most valuable (no pun) takeaways from the program. This is one story of many stories in the MedTech Innovator program, of founders that accomplish amazing things to advance patient care. It would be just as easy to write about all companies in this release, as well as all companies in the cohort I have had the honor of working with. It is like having kids, I don't love one of you more than another, and you all shine at different times in different ways. I'd like to thank the American Heart Association, the #CHTI program, Jeffrey Makowka, Mitchell Elkind, and all the wonderful people that made this experience possible for companies in the AHA cohort. Special recognition also to Brian Benson and Nicole Black, PhD from MedTech Innovator. Their efforts in particular to make this award recognition possible.
Announcing the 2024 MedTech Innovator Mid-Stage Grand Finalists & Value Award Finalists! 👏 This year’s Mid-Stage cohort includes outstanding medtech companies focused on transformative healthcare impact. Congratulations to the finalists competing for the $200k non-dilutive prize: Arsenal Medical, LATTICE MEDICAL, Ozlo Sleep, and Somnics, Inc.. This year’s MedTech Innovator Value Award, a $25,000 prize, is the culmination of MTI's comprehensive Value Program, a unique accelerator component where companies refine their value propositions with guidance from market access coaches. The finalists: Cellular Vehicles, CranioSense, iCE Neurosystems, Inc., and myBiometry. Congrats to these trailblazers - stay tuned and be involved at the MedTech Strategist Innovation Summit in San Diego, CA Nov 19-21, where both competitions will be held and winners will be crowned after a live audience vote. 🎖 Check out the press release here: https://lnkd.in/gi-bqX7H #medicaldevice #medtech #innovation #MTS24
