We’ve just taken another significant step towards a fairer and greener Romania through our partnership with the Ministry of Environment (Ministerul Mediului, Apelor si Padurilor)! 🌳 This collaboration between Google Cloud, MMAP, and us builds on the success of last fall's pilot project, which focused on advanced data analysis from the SUMAL 2.0 application in November 2023. During the pilot, we processed 400,684 transport notices and 1.6 million photos in just three days using #Google solutions. Without this technology, it would have required a team of 125 people and taken ten times as long. Our solution uses 49 parameters and advanced #algorithms to not only identify elements in images but also reveal complex relationships and hidden meanings. The impact has been impressive: fines totaling 3.84 million lei were issued, and 1,038 cubic meters of wood worth 281,000 lei were confiscated. This project not only pays for itself but also adds a significant surplus to the state budget. 📈 A big shoutout to our partners at Google—we’ve been innovating and making a real impact together for over 10 years, and we're excited about what’s next. For more information on the goals of this partnership for the year ahead, as well as details on the budget and #technology involved, please refer to the press release in the comments below (available in both English and Romanian). Michael Strahan - A Dynamic Force on and off the Field Presentation In the speedy domain of innovation, organizations like Google are continually advancing to remain on the ball. Notwithstanding, in some cases even monsters face difficulties that require difficult choices. As of late, the tech world was swirling with news about Google cutbacks, an improvement that has sent swells through the business. In this article, we will dig into the complexities of the Google cutbacks, investigating the purposes for the choice, its effect on representatives and the more extensive tech scene, and how it affects the eventual fate of this tech force to be reckoned with. Figuring out Google Cutbacks The Google cutbacks, an expression reverberating across news titles and industry conversations, arose as the organization tried to smooth out its tasks and adjust to changing business sector elements. The choice was without a doubt an essential move, mirroring Google's obligation to supported development and seriousness in a consistently advancing scene. While the expression "Google cutbacks" may conjure concerns and vulnerability, it is urgent to dig further into the reasons driving this choice. Purposes for Google Cutbacks The choice to execute Google cutbacks can be credited to different variables, remembering shifts for market interest, mechanical progressions, and the need to advance assets. Organizations of Google's extent frequently reconsider their labor force to guarantee arrangement with arising business techniques. The Google cutbacks might flag a rebuilding exertion pointed toward improving productivity and keeping up with the organization's spryness in a powerful industry. read more... https://lnkd.in/gKSbTx9x

While going through the paper of Google Spanner, there is this term named as Externally Consistent System. Even before reading this paper I was only aware of Strong consistency and Eventual consistency and strict, but then this new term erupts. After going through couple of articles below is definition of External Consistent System.which is somewhat similar to strong consistency which in distributed system , hard to achieve.(but Google Spanner does it). An externally consistent system, also known as a system with linearizability or strong consistency, ensures that once a transaction is committed, all subsequent operations (both reads and writes) will see the results of that transaction. This means the system behaves as if all transactions are executed in a strict sequential order, even if they are actually executed concurrently across a distributed system. Key Points of External Consistent System 1.TrueTime API: Spanner relies on Google's TrueTime API, which provides globally synchronized time with bounded uncertainty. This allows Spanner to ensure that transactions are externally consistent by coordinating precise timestamps across multiple data centers. 2.Two-Phase Commit: Spanner uses a two-phase commit protocol to ensure that distributed transactions are committed atomically across multiple nodes. This ensures that either all operations of a transaction are committed or none are. 3.Commit Wait: To guarantee external consistency, Spanner implements a commit wait. This involves waiting until the commit timestamp is guaranteed to be in the past according to the TrueTime bounds, ensuring that all future reads will see the committed data. In the subsequent post I will be talking about how does Google Spanner achieve it while doing reads and writes, across distributed system. #systemDesign #backendEngineering #distributedSystems

Fantastic news for Google and Norway! 👏 🎂 Google has chosen Skien, Norway to build one of its largest global data center facilities. Once fully developed, the capacity is estimated to be 860 MW. The Norwegian government wants to strengthen the national data storage capacity, and as the Minister for Digitalization, Karianne Oldernes Tung, said, "We need data centers." We salute Google and the Norwegian government for putting Norway on the map as the ideal location for sustainable data center capacity! Check out the link for more information. 🚨 Google I/O is today. This one feels particularly significant because there are rumours SGE will be launched. In my circles, this narrative has mainly come from Eli Schwartz. 🚦 He has said "A launch announcement doesn't necessarily mean that SGE goes live to 100% of logged-in and logged-out users globally. Given litigation concerns, Google may hold back SGE from many countries (the whole EU), account types (school/workplace), and even logged-in states." 😮 But, there is no doubt that, *when* it is launched it will impact brands and businesses in affected verticals. Not just against visibility and performance metrics but also in measurement and reporting. 💡 We have been talking to clients about SGE for over a year investigating (where possible) how it may impact them and how we can prepare. Watch this space (or Google I/O at 6pm UK time). 😺 SEO is not dead, if anything it is more important than ever. #googleio #googlesge #searchgenerativeexperience #generativeai

In light of all the nonsense I hear from the Digital Public Goods Alliance and GovStack about "Digital Public Infrastructure" and open source software, this actually makes sense to me: https://lnkd.in/gQPkPRBg Although we don't want to "export Aadhaar"... but that has as much to do with governance as technology. And... let's make sure Google uses open source to deliver this DPI. That's the real way to encourage innovation over time.

Did you know? 🤔 Google's autocomplete feature cuts down typing by about 25%. It might not seem like a lot, but Google estimates that it saves users about 200 years of typing per day! 😮 When you start typing in the search bar, autocomplete predicts your queries and offers suggestions, allowing you to find what you're looking for faster. Google estimates that this feature reduces typing by about 25%, making your search experience smoother and more efficient — which calculates to roughly 200 years of typing time saved per day. So next time you start typing in Google, remember how much time you're saving with this handy feature! 💡 😊 #SearchEfficiency #UserExperience #Google #TechTips #SearchEngine

I arrived in San Francisco today for my annual Silicon Valley trip. While U.S. startups seem to be relentlessly focused on winning in next gen technologies and AI, EU policymakers believe it will be enough to just tax future innovations instead of actively participating in their creation. With new laws like the Digital Markets Act, the EC now has a tool to impose fines of up to 10% of total global revenue on foreign tech giants in case of infringement, which can go up to 20% in case of repeated infringement. Prior to my departure, I published an article about the recent changes that the DMA brought to large digital platform operators in the EU, with a particular focus on how it worsens Google Search (Spoiler: if you miss the Google Maps or Flights verticals in Search, blame the EC‘s self-preferencing ban under Article 6(5) of the DMA). An informative read for anyone invested in tech in Europe, linked below: https://lnkd.in/dXa6Qr8B

Google's recent announcement of a Shipping Network Design API is a positive step towards helping shipping lines optimize their networks and schedules. However, Google's potential extends far beyond this initial tool. Their existing suite of technologies, including Google Maps, translation services, and artificial intelligence, offers exciting possibilities for further innovation. For instance, I envision (and am working on) a system that standardizes data exchange between shipping lines and container terminals. This, combined with AI-powered optimization, could revolutionize container terminal operations by mitigating inefficiencies, congestion, and associated costs. #google #shipping #maritimetransportation #logistics #apis #innovation
