REMEMBERING GRENFELL 💚 Today marks the anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, a tragic event that claimed 72 lives and forever altered the lives of countless others. My thoughts and heart goes out to the families and survivors who continue to live with the profound impact of that night. I also want to extend my thoughts to all those who played key roles in the immediate and ongoing response. Call handlers who had to endure the agony of hearing people’s final moments whilst begging for help. Firefighters who risked their lives amidst harrowing conditions to save others. Medical professionals who provided critical care to the injured and traumatised. Volunteers and community who’s groups sprang into action, offering shelter, comfort, and support. Each played a vital role in facing one of our nation's darkest moments. The Grenfell Tower fire has shone a harsh light on the shortcomings in building safety regulations and the urgent need for comprehensive reform. It emphasised the necessity for stricter safety standards and greater accountability. As we approach the release of the Phase 2 report, it’s important to focus on what we can change going forward. The forthcoming report will provide crucial insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the systemic issues that contributed to it. It is essential that we not only acknowledge these findings but also commit to turning lessons identified into lessons learned. We owe it to the victims, the survivors, and their families to build a future where such a tragedy can never happen again. As the Inquiry's findings come to light, let’s channel our grief and determination into concrete actions that honour their memory and protect future generations. #Grenfell💚

In emergency management, partnerships are the cornerstone of resilience and strength within our communities. When agencies, first responders, volunteers, and community organizations work together, they build a safety net that is much stronger than any single entity could provide alone. Each partner brings unique expertise, resources, and perspectives that are vital in creating comprehensive emergency response plans, training programs, and communication networks. By fostering these partnerships, communities enhance their collective ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Community members benefit from a well-coordinated response that minimizes harm and speeds recovery. These partnerships also allow communities to develop robust public alerting systems, provide thorough training for emergency personnel, and offer continuing education opportunities that strengthen community resilience. In short, emergency management partnerships are about building a culture of safety and preparedness that extends beyond organizational boundaries creating a community where we look out for one another, collaborate to overcome challenges, and emerge stronger from every crisis. Together, we’re not just managing emergencies; we can build a safer future.
📣 We're excited to announce a new emergency management partnership agreement with our neighbours, Barons, Coalhurst, Nobleford and Picture Butte! This partnership will allow us to work together to train staff on large-scale emergency responses, share resources and create streamlined processes that will help us all be better prepared when disaster strikes. The communities came together this morning to speak to the media about this exciting initiative, and you can learn more here: https://bit.ly/3YyI8iS

The Ready, Set, Go! Program is a grant-funded initiative aimed at preparing fire departments and their communities for wildfire risk. Firefighters are some of the most respected voices in their communities; by providing outreach, education, and resources to members of their public, fire departments can create fire-adapted communities long before emergencies occur. In a crisis, this kind of preparation can make it safer for both civilians and first responders to handle the event. RSG! was created to give fire departments, community organizations, and individuals those resources in an accessible format. At RSG!, our goal is your safety. Watch the video below to learn more about who we are and what we do:

Earlier this month, #Valencia was hit with unprecedented rainfall and flooding, displacing thousands and causing widespread damage. In response, Direct Relief provided a $135,000 emergency cash grant to Bombers Unidos Sin Fronteras, a Spanish search and rescue team. With this support, the BUSF team carried out critical search and rescue operations, medical evacuations, and cleared infrastructure to restore emergency logistics. The grant also provided essential equipment like water pumps and generators to aid their efforts. Now, as the immediate response phase ends, BUSF is working alongside local partners like the Red Cross to tackle ongoing health and sanitation challenges. Direct Relief is continuing to support the recovery with a shipment of 36 field medic backpacks and 200 personal care kits.
