Road runoff pollution is an often overlooked crisis that’s damaging our waterways. It occurs when common pollutants on the road surface are washed into rivers and streams by heavy rainfall, and it’s responsible for 18% of water body failures in England. Unfortunately, the toxic chemicals of road runoff cause severe harm by: 🐟 Provoking growth issues and mutations in local wildlife, especially in fish and insects ↩️ Disrupting the fragile ecosystem of rivers 🕳️ Contaminating groundwater The #Construction and #CivilEngineering industries must come together to deliver the solution. 🔎 Want to be part of the change? Take the first steps by downloading our whitepaper today: https://lnkd.in/eFfXBVPg #BreakingNewGround #Civils #WaterPollution

Interesting fact of the day - The biggest source of pollution to our oceans 🌫 🌊 🌧🏗: Non point source pollution - You must not discharge or allow water contaminated with silt to enter a watercourse or drain as it can cause pollution 🛑 . Surface water runoff management is critical to safeguarding our water courses. Did you know that a staggering 80% of marine pollution originates from land-based sources? Nonpoint source pollution, a major contributor driven by runoff, encompasses a wide range of pollutants, including those from septic tanks, vehicles, farms, and construction sites. The consequences are dire. Nonpoint source pollution renders river and ocean water unsafe for both humans and wildlife. In fact, in some areas, pollution levels are so severe that beaches must be closed after rainstorms. #surfacewaterrunoff #erosioncontrol #watermanagement https://lnkd.in/eWtc7YZY

colorful drawing of a globe surrounded by trees. It has text that promotes land restoration, water conservation, tree protection, stopping plastic use, and stopping pollution. These are all actions that can help to combat desertification and drought. Desertification is the process by which land becomes dry, barren, and desert-like. It can be caused by natural factors, such as climate change, or by human activities, such as deforestation and overgrazing. Drought is a period of below-average precipitation that lasts for a long time. It can also be caused by natural factors or human activities. Land restoration is the process of repairing damaged or degraded land. It can be done through a variety of techniques, such as planting trees, reintroducing native plants, and improving soil quality. Land restoration can help to combat desertification and drought by improving the ability of land to store water and by reducing soil erosion. #sonisingh #Raginipatel

Whether you love them or loathe them, we all depend on bugs. But we’re making the lives of insects tough. Because of air pollution, the visits of pollinating insects to flowers plummeted by as much as 90%. Read complete report on how climate change is making life tougher for bugs. #AirPollution #Bugs #Crop #ShipandShoreEnvironmental

Some of the main causes of this kind of damage to our rivers include agricultural runoff, the destruction of wetlands, and sediment erosion due to deforestation. This creates huge negative affects to our waterways, putting our freshwater fish at increasing risk becoming extinct and meaning we have less drinkable and swimmable water available to us. BioBonds aims to help by stabilising the soil with native forests to prevent this kind of damaging runoff from occurring. Water is life, and we must protect it at all costs 🌱 #sustainability #sustainableNZ #nativetrees #plantingtrees
