Today is National Choking Awareness Day! Join us in raising awareness of choking prevention, how to deal with a choking emergency, and save a life! Always prepare children's food into manageable pieces, always supervise young children when they are eating, never let a child eat in their car seat, always cut grapes, blueberries, sausages/hot dogs into small pieces/quarters. Make sure to follow SALT food plans for elderly people who have dysphagia, and neurological disorders. Keep small toys out of reach of young children. Be prepared to help save a life, take an accredited first aid course and have a LifeVac® on hand when first aid fails or cannot be performed. Did you know choking can also lead to cardiac arrest? So not only are you reducing choking related deaths, but also reducing the amount of deaths due to cardiac arrest. To date we have helped save 1,987 lives in a choking emergency, of which 1,271 have been children. Share this post and help save another life! #LifeVac #bechokeaware #nationalchokingawarenessday #choking #ChokingAwareness #ChokingPrevention #cardiacarrest #parenting #parents #children #family #elderly #ElderlyCare #schools #carehome www.lifevac.uk

Hey 👋🏽 Everybody, While your celebrating 🎉 this weekend stay aware (and at all times) of all possible accident’s including with children and babies. This video shows a child choking expert below and offers great tips, advice and offers charts to make sure you have the right info if you should need it… According to the National Library of Medicine (NLM) about 66 to 77 children younger than 10 years die from choking on food each year in the United States. More than 10,000 ER visits annually can be attributed to choking on food among children aged 14 years and younger. 75% of choking deaths occur in children under the age of three A real risk factor is the windpipe of a child which is narrow… and the size of a drinking straw, making choking a serious hazard. According to N.Y.gov choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional death in children under the age of 5. Choking is the greatest risk for injury and death. Toys, household items and foods can all be a choking hazard. For Additional info and facts go to cdc.gov.

🔥Hot water burns like fire 🔥 30 children go to hospital with a burn from a hot drink ☕🫖🍵 EVERY DAY in the UK 😟 Prompt, effective first aid action can reduce the severity of a burn. Remember: ✅ COOL with running water for at least 20 minutes * ✅ CHECK the injury area after cooling and if larger than a 50p piece seek medical review. This could be a CALL to 111, a visit to a local minor injuries unit or A&E. If on the palm of the hand (think function) or across a joint on a child (who is growing) also seek medical review. ✅ COVER to minimise any risk of infection if you can see the burn after cooling. A good option is clingfilm applied in strips to allow room for swelling should it occur. If there is nothing to see after cooling, there is no need to call or cover. * For young children and the elderly, if cooling a large area of this body be aware of causing core cooling (hypothermia). ⚠️ Never pop blisters If camping over the holidays, then teach children to be fire-safe, and keep hot drinks out of reach of our littler people, that way you won’t have to do the first aid 😊 #burns #firstaid #makeadifference #firstaidforparents #fridayfirstaidtips

You will never forget the sound of croup once you've heard it. Like a seal, it is a harsh barking cough. Croup is a condition caused by a viral infection. The virus leads to swelling of the voice box (larynx) and windpipe (trachea). This swelling makes the airway narrower, so it is harder to breathe. Children with croup develop a harsh, barking cough and may make a noisy, high-pitched sound when they breathe in (stridor). Croup mostly affects children between six months and five years old, but it can affect older children. Some children get croup several times. While no treatment is required for mild croup it can get worse quickly. If your child is having problems breathing, seek urgent medical attention. Online First Aid training for Parents and Carers, delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO90909 includes education on common childhood health issues as well as lifesaving first aid. In those critical moments, your knowledge can be the difference between panic and confident action. People Taking Care of Children with Seizures Should Always Remember: ● Vigilance: Be observant of the child's behavior to identify any potential warning signs or triggers for seizures. ● Safety First: Create a safe environment at home and school, removing potential hazards and taking precautions during activities like bathing or playing outdoors. ● Medication Management: Administer medications as prescribed, and keep track of dosage and timing. ● Communication: Maintain open communication with the child's doctor, school, and other caregivers about their seizure condition and any changes in their health or behavior. ● Emergency Preparedness: Know what to do during a seizure and when to seek emergency medical assistance. ● Emotional Support: Provide reassurance, understanding, and love to the child. Encourage them to express their feelings and concerns. ● Advocacy: Advocate for the child's needs at school and in other settings to ensure they receive appropriate accommodations and support. ● Education: Learn as much as possible about the child's specific seizure type and any associated conditions to provide the best care. ● Patience: Be patient and understanding. Seizures can be unpredictable and frustrating, but your #support is crucial. ● Self-Care: Taking care of yourself is also important. Don't hesitate to seek support or respite care when needed. #seizure
